MSE in the classroom

Options
Hi everyone
Since I join MSE last january I am a complete converted. So much that I am going to start teaching my Sixth Former the art of budgeting.

This is were you all can take part.
;)
I would be grateful for tips for them, from eating for a quid, to cheapest cd's.
Everthing and anything !. I will try to make sense of it and separate it for easier use by everyone.

Please help!

By the way Y9 have already been on MSE for their PHSE lessons. ;)

I was lucky enough to have a frugal mother who i learned basic economies in the home but when i went into the workplace and started earning my own wage i was like a fish out of water. I really needed help with banking matters, learning how to work out compound interest on savings and loans etc. Oh and bank charges, i am fortunate that i have never been in the position where i couldnt pay my bills but even now i dont really know the consequences of being overdrawn.

Brilliant!!! the best subject ever and the one which i will take through life was the economics one I did in the 6th year, I left home at 17 and thanks to the teacher i was able to get through life without ever getting into mega debt, if more teachers were like you and him life would be easier for the generations to come, good luck!

  • I have my Yr 8 son doing a spending diary on an excel speadsheet. It was an immediate revelation to him that he could fritter money away and been unable to say where it had gone. Now he keeps receipts and has very quickly money-aware. It is a balance with kids though, isn't it? Don't want them to become too savvy so that they don't care about their fellow man:rolleyes: :money:

My tutor for OU gave the class this link, and we are now all re-looking at our finances. We were all surprised at how naive we had been concerning out finances beforehand. I think it would be a real good idea to take it into the school and make the future generations more concious and responsible of their spending habits than what alot of generation was (self included).
