Dilemma-Accept Job but apply for another???

Hello,
I just want some advice/your opinions or what would you do really.
I got offered a job which I'm really happy about - got formal letter last week. BUT.....I have seen advertised, another job which is more local to me and pays a few thousand a year more.
I want to apply for this new job but feel that morally it is wrong to accept the current job offer, knowing that I may decline it in a few weeks time - IF I get the other one? :undecided
What would you do?
And will I be "blacklisted" in future, by the council if I "mess" them about like this?
:undecided:undecided:undecided

I would accept and apply for the other job. If you get the other job - great! The people who have offered you the job already will probably have contingency plans in hand for if someone leaves in the first 3 months (we tend to offer to the person who came 2nd, without the need for re-advertising. Yes, it is annoying, but that's life!) I can't imagine anyone would be organised or vindictive enough to blacklist you for any length of time (I assume it is the council who have offered you the job?)Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

I'd go for it.
I applied for 2 jobs at the same time, I got offered one before my interview date for the second - I had to take the first one, in case I didn't get offered the other.
My interview was 2 weeks after I started the first job - I got offered the second job - the one I wanted more and those two weeks had showed me the first really wasn't for me (exactly the same job just different employers) and the second had more long term opportunities that I wanted.
I left, felt a little guilty about it whilst working my notice, 3 years later still working for the second employer and got the opportunity that I wanted when I applied for.
You have to do what is right for you0 -
The jobs are from 2 different councils.
My practical side is saying I should apply for the new job (as more money and greener for environment - less travel!
). But my heart is feeling guilty as the "would be" employer is a really nice lady and I would have wasted her time! 0 -
Do what is right for yourself. You won;t get any brownie points for loyalty at this stage in your employment.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

Thanks all, for taking time to read and your advice!0

You'd kick yourself if you declined the new job and didnt get the one advertised.
Go for both, accept and applymake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Do it. If you don't get it, at least you know. If you get it, great!0

Another vote for apply for the 2nd job.
Keep your options open, you don't owe this lady anything and as said before, they could always offer it to the runner up.
Good luck

Thanks for your replies everyone! Won't feel so guilty now.

Go for it, they won't know that you didn't have the interview at the same time as with them but they just took longer to offer it.
You have to do what is right for you and any decent company will understand that.0
