Ideal isar boiler packed in :(

Hey every1.

My ideal isar boiler has decided to stop working this morning, much to my annoyance!! It has done this a few times before when the display panel is flashing and all it needs is switched off at the wall for afew seconds to reset it. Today was different as there were no flashing lights on the display(nothing at all tbh) and the switch off then on trick didn't work. I noticed the pressure was nil so opened the valve to bring it back up but this hasn't worked. The pilot light is still on though so the boiler is getting power and my gas still works in the kitchen.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • you`ll need a gas fitter round to look at it to be honest.

Horrid boilers, i had one fitted a few years back and it went wrong a lot, I must have had about 6 main boards installed over 4 years, plus other bits and bobs.

i am in rented accommodation so I was lucky in that it cost me nothing, but the last thing to go belly up was the heat exchanger, it kept leaking. My landlord had enough and got a new Worcester installed. Happy as hell with it, no one problem in the last 3 years.

Sorry, can't help you, but but check to make sure it have not been leaking and the water is not going into the PCB.
  • The Isar doesn't have a pilot light???
  • Spoke to a heating engineer who has done some work for me before and he reckons its the circuit board. Talking £270 n that's the labour as well.

I meant the on/off switch nxt 2 the display panel that glows orange when on, apologies for the confusion.

    Thanks for your views.
  • Ring up Ideal and get someone round. I've had problems for the past couple of years (cant afford a new one :-( ) Initially I had B Gas round to look and also an array of local plumbers and gas fitters but none of them could sort the problem permanantly. Since then I have had Ideal round and they have sorted it (fingers crossed!)
:T Looking forward to the future :T
  • The boiler was installed when my flat was built, about 10 years ago roughly, as I'm the 2nd owner do you think ideal would send someone out? Also did they charge?

10 year old condensing boiler, how many more years do you expect from it if someone did fix it? Get a new boiler, which comes with two or more years of guarantee.

Ideal only ever gave these a 10 year lifespan approx.

If you have checked all fuses then sounds like the pcb gone. £270 is a good price, but the fan will need checking first, as these are well known to take the pcb out when they fault.

Get rid..my non condensing boiler is over 25 years old and still going. Monthly gas/electric spend in total...£45
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Same (inherited in house move) boiler, only about 5 years, old same thing happened to me, went away for a couple of days last Christmas, leaving the heating set to low. Came back to a freezing cold house and 2 very forlorn cats. Had to have the circuit board replaced.

Fortunately had signed up to a £10 a month service, parts and labour plan just 2 months earlier with a local heating engineer. He happened to have the part in stock and came out on the Bank Holiday (driven by his dad, because he'd been at a party the night before) and sorted everything out and no further charge.

Good fortune, in a way, for me and a great service from a local small business :T
