Missing deeds and a deceased accountant

I hope this is the most appropriate forum for this question!
My mum is trying to trace some deeds to a plot of land. She managed to find the accountant who held the records (to the best of her knowledge), unfortunately he has passed away.
My question is regarding the accountants paperwork and files - what would have happened to all those particulars when the accountant passed away and the firm is no longer trading.
What happens to any deeds etc in this instance?
Any advice or help would be fantastic.

Find out which professional body the accountant was a member of. A phone call to them to find out who took over the practice should get the ball rolling.I can spell - but I can't type0
