Hi
I am trying to book a visit to Lake Garda next June as a surprise for my daughter and her husband as she went there for her honeymoon and has always talked about going back.
She now has 2 children , aged 7 & 11, and would not go without them so I plan to go as well to mind the kids so that they can go out in the evenings.
However everywhere seems really expensive so I wondered if anyone can recommend anywhere to stay as I am a pensioner and don't have unlimited funds? They stayed near Salo before.
I have been saving airmiles and can use them when they change to Avios to cover flights to Milan and pay the extra.
If possible I would like somewhere from 1st - 10th June as that is when the kids are off school.
Any advice would be appreciated

We went a few years ago with keycamp, staying in a static caravan which is ideal for a family... as I remember it was about £1100 for 2 weeks, we got bargain flights for £50 each (EasyJet to Milan) and a hire car for about £400 so the total was about £1700 for the 4 of us inc hire car. The campsite was in Moniga right on the lake.
But this was in August, should be a lot cheaper in June.0 -
A word of warning...we went in June this year, it didnt stop raining.0

Garda land theme park is round the bottom part of the lake near Peshiera del Garda and i have read is worth a visit exspecially with youngish kids
Half term week with the bank holdaiy I would have thought will be quite expensive (and busy though). Plenty of campsites with caravans, chalets, ready pitched tents all available round the lake though0 -

Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

we stayed at peschiera de garda at the parc hotel paradiso, they also have self catering apartments, it is 10 mins from Verona airport. They have a free shuttle bus that takes you from the complex to the resort hourly about 10mins. It is the bottom of the lake and very easy to get around. We booked with inghams. we stayed at the hotel on half board basis, but believe since are visit in 2009 it is not all inclusive.
happy to offer any further info needed

I would have thought Verona airport was your best bet , and stay on the east side/ bottom of the lake because its closer to the airport . There are a couple of theme parks that side tooVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0

Hi Sheila.
I did a DIY trip with my daughter a couple of years back. We flew Bergamo, a pretty little town well worth a stopover, got an easy bus from the airport to Milan (dump), caught a train to Peschiara and stayed in a clean, friendly, if basic, hotel (Green Park http://www.gardalake.it/greenpark-hotel/ ), which is a 10 min (ish) walk (uphill) from the lakeside. Peschiara is not the prettiest place at Lake Garda, but it is well placed for the station and ferries. We had an early flight home, so stayed the last evening in Bergamo in a B&B that was so friendly (forgot the name, sorry), the owner gave us a special early breakfast and a free lift to the airport! There is a pretty little market square there with the most amazing coffee/cake shop.

Forgot to add there is a regular bus service to Verona from Peschiara too, but don't expect much from Juliet's Balcony!0
