i have two elderley friends who have damp damage in there kitchen/utility room ,according to the specialists who are doing the work it was caused by a faulty downpipe over a long period .The thing we would like to know is . My friend changed his insurance to TSB in august and they are telling him it his not there problem it is the previous insurer AS you can understand they are in there 80s and are looking at a £2,500 bill . I believe insurers are fobbing him off What to do thanks Beatrice

Insurance covers you for a one off event and in almost all cases, it is the insurer at the time of the event that is responsible not at the time of the claim.
To be honest it sounds like it will end up being an uninsured loss, what is the "fault"? what caused the fault to occur?0 -
The damage came from a failed down pipe outside the kitchen roof and the damp people who are doing the job say it has been a problem that has been dripping water into thehose ofer a long period

Again, how has it "failed"? What/ when was the event that caused it to "fail"?
If it has just worn out and just been continuously leaking for an extended period then this will almost certainly be excluded.0 -
Yes i believe you art right it has rusted away at the back of the downpipe over a long period sorry to be vague this all info given to me0
