re-restore point

Hi, Due to my letting Lexmark having remote use of my PC to try and fix printer problem, I am getting more problems, one being my Touchpad scroll.I have already posted this, with no solution. If I go to a restore piont prior to when she altered my pc, will it reset everything to the status quo, and wipe out all she did, with the hopeful result of my touchpad scroll, etc working? She said she altered Avast, but the printer still doesn,t work right.She went into everything, 40 minutes I watched as the screen was a blur with her procedures. I know she used reconfig;but what she did, I have no idea.
How far back can I go using restore points? I,ve only recently taken my pc back to factory settings;which is when printer started playing up. Any advice would be most grateful;

    If your Touchpad is not working, it could be that it is disabled. Perhaps just a matter of preesing the Fn key in conjunction with whichever F key that corresponds to the Touchpad.

    Any yellow question marks in the Device Manager?

    If you've already done a recent Factory Restore, then you can only go back as far as that-all Restore Points prior to the Factory Restore would have been wiped.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Hi TakeThis, I,ve tried everything with the help of Scouse.I cannot scroll using it. I can use it for other. just use up/down keys to scroll.slow. Tried device manager, mouse, acer synaptic. Cannot rollback driver, greyed out. updated driver, but was already using latest.Cannot show synaptic icon on tray.It,s the scroll on touchpad that I want.Why she should alter that, I don,t know.Could be coincidental, but had a couple of things she ,s affected, wouldn,t be so bad if she,d fixed the printer;;thanks for reply.Just thought restore may be solution, last resort.No yellow s in DM. It says Thouchpad is working ok.Tried settings.

    After looking at your previous threads....it's a mess. Perhaps start again with a clean install.

    Make and model of PC, together with model of printer.

    That way we can troubleshoot knowing that there aren't other obstacles.

    Hi, Thanks again, and Macman, who has helped me several times.
    I have an acer aspire laptop 5920, windows vista 32 sp2.
    Lexmark all in one x1180 printer.
    About 2 months ago I did acer e-recovery back to factory settings, and as you know, the updates took ages.Santer took me each step of the way, He was/is Ace.Spooler was off, santer got it back on;
    When I completed it, I could not instal my printer from my instal disk.
    so , I was directed to Lexmark chat live, and the chap, got it loaded ok, with their software.
    However, it wouldn,t work right, always had to restart the pc, then pending doc would be printed.as it was re-booting;
    Used pc for a while, weeks, until,
    After a while I re-visited Lex chat, about it, the pc was working fine,spooler on, otherwise, she said she would need to take remote control, which was ok with me.
    40 minutes of watching her perform, re-booting etc, she said it was Avast Av, and it would be ok now.
    It wasn,t,still the same problem, won,t print, until I reboot, and doc prints auto as its booting up.
    Then I noticed secunia was not scanning, took it off and re-installed.ok.
    Then touchpad wouldn,t scroll, tried everything suggested by scouse, nogo.
    It seems very slow for a factory restore, didn,t put back up on.
    Crashed yesterday, but re-booted straight away.Screenprtint wouln,t work, fixed that.
    Loads of minor niggles that weren,t there prior to Lex remote.
    really prefer not doing another factory if it can be helped.
    Was going to get a new printer, but if it,s pc,then I will be stuck with it.

    Bit of a Saga, sorry.I will understand if you prefer not to get involved.I can cope with it, but,I didn,t expect more troubles after lexmark than I had when I used them.I have no idea what she has altered, it,s only when I come to use something, that I find it,s no longer there, or working. I cannot see how she said it was Avast, because, I tried printing with it disabled, and used MSE instead of Avast, to see if it was A/v conflicting.with printer, still the problem persisted.

    Thank you for putting it all together under a single thread.

    Have you run a hard drive and file integrity check?

    If we can eliminate hardware faults, then we can concentrate on the OS.
    One option, if the laptop is performing poorly with Vista, is to downgrade to XP.

    Hi, Thanks again. No, I have not ran a hard drive and file integrity check. Wouldn,t know how;
    I,ve had vista since pc was new, 2.5 years,I have always found it ok;Used xp pro on my old one.
    This may seem daft and unrelated, BUT. MY ISP is AOL, 8 years now and out of contract.
    I had cause to call thier techies after my factory restore, just to get the AOL browser for my e-mail. To cut a long story short, they were most concerned in trying to get me to renew my contract, than sort my e-mail out, I got them to put thier new offer in an e-mail for me to consider when I have sorted my pc.and after them trying to blame my router, they downloaded thier browser, which is crap, but need it for e-mail.
    Since then , every day I am bombarded with, Speed your pc with this or that tool from AOL,pop ups, and invariably thier browser does not respond..keeps dropping out. I use chrome or IE9 instead. I have read on here, AOL, have deliberately reduced the speed of many customers, and when they renewed thier contract, the speed and other gripes were ok.
    Could AOL(Talk Talk) be behind my low speed?
    I have a very suspicious mind, but only through experience;
    I can get 4-5 mbs one minute, then 0.8 mbs the next. Chrome is better, but only 1-2mbs usually;just done speedtest with thinkbroadband. 0.8mbs. not exactly superhighway;;No fibre here, 1 mile from exchange
    Sorry to digress;
    I look forward to any advice, thankyou.
    Somehow I think my printer is faulty, so I intend to try and instal it on my daughters pc, and see if it works on hers. She has no printer on hers at present.Does that seem logical??
