I have a Smart - bought second hand cheap 35k on the clock. The only issue resulting in a breakdown was a garage not sorting the spark plugs after a service which stranded me on the M3. (The first time I had not used a Mercedes garage for the service)

I find it fantastic to drive, economical and she has held her price very well. I do the M3 every day with no problem. (when using the word economical I should point out I am speed limit observing, fuel optimising driver so this could more be a driving style that the car itself)

The car has its foibles (but so does the OH car no more or less). The turbo lag does need managing but on balance not really an issue.

She was involved in non fault fairly heavy rear end crash which she withstood epically. As a modular car, panels were fitted in few days and returned looking no worse for wear.

I am always surprised how much you can fit in a Smart on one occasion an entire wedding reception decorations, presents and 30 cakes stands. (The collection van did not turn up, the hall needed clearing and I was the only one to drive to the wedding as she was small enough to fit in a free space)

The plan was just to use as a run-about and the Golf as the main car however I rarely drive the Golf now and leave her for the OH.

I will admit to being totally biased as I really like my car and enjoy nipping about in her so possibly I would not be the most objective.
Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...

    Debt-free and Proud!
I've had an IQ for a couple of years now, light years ahead of the smart car imo. Sure, I could have bought a focus or astra for the same cash, but I would just be telling the world I've given up on life. :p

Has the same amount of room inside as a honda civic, it really is like a tardis. Can get early 1.0l models for around £7k now - they do hold their value really well. Its also a hoot to drive, much prefer it to the mini s cooper I had, just try the turning circle ;)

    From Wikipedia:

The Smart Roadster is a two-door sports car first introduced in 2003 by Smart GmbH. Sales of the Roadster and Roadster Coup! met expectations, however warranty claims resulted in a halt of production of both models in November 2005 after 43,091 Roadsters were made.

The Roadster is not the FourTwo. That's a different car.

The start of this thread did not mention any model of 'Smart' car.

It only referred to 'Smart Car', mentioning no particular model.

The Roadstar is (or was) a 'Smart' car.

The i10 is amazing value for money and the Comfort version is very well equipped for the price. The auto has a proper torque converter gearbox, too. It is a bit cramped, but I would much rather have one than a Smart.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

    Ok... whatever.

Might be worth noting the difference between the brand and the FourTwo which is what the OP was clearly interested in and others are noting their actual experiences with.

Why does it not surprise me that you are once again unable to just admit your mistake.

Learn the difference between a 'brand' and a 'product'

This thread is about 'Smart' cars, not about a FourTwo, Mr Clever Clogs. Try reading the first post.

    Please try to engage brain.

What people know as the 'Smart Car' is the FourTwo.

The OP said they had noticed a number of Smart Cars and were thinking of getting one.

Others clearly made reference to the FourTwo as this is the only model in production. Therefore a 'Smart Car' today is a FourTwo.

    You sad little man you.

So using your way of thinking, an MG is a two seater sports car and not a saloon, because that's what most people think of when they think MG.

Please get it through your thick head that a 'Smart' car is any car made by the 'Smart GmbH' company and that includes the 'Smart Roadster' where you like it or not.

You forgot WAS made. Past tense simnce that is what you are talking about.

You made a stupid generalisation and you can't admit it.

It seems that you and you alone in this entire thread are the only one stupid enough not to realise the conversation was about the ForTwo. Mind, given your form I'm not surprised. Another care in the community day is it?

    No shock.
