Text Message from 07970 406516

Hi all,

new to all this so please be gentle with me.

I keep receiving a text message from mobile phone number 07970 406516 with the following text:

"Records passed to us show you are entitled to a refund of approximately £2370 in compensation from the mis-selling of PPI on your credit card or loan.Reply INFO"

Sometimes the reply is PPI and not INFO.

Now, all my previous credit cards have been cleared and I wasn't aware that I had any PPI on them when I had them, let alone wether it was mis-sold to me or not!

I'm really not too sure whether to pursue this or just forget about it and put it down to another spam text.

I'm not an expert on the whole PPI thing so some advice would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

I get those too. I'm not an expert, but I think it's just spam. They're fishing to see if someone bites. It's probably just a generic text and the amount you can claim back just picked out of the air.

Yes you are correct David, these sms messages are normaly sent from some idiot sitting in there bedroom that is set up as a sim farm, there is a mith that by replying to the actual message you will be passed on to other UK Company's, this is rubbish as the guys who send these out either purchase numbers from either a legitimate or illegal source or they just use a number generator in any case once a sms is delivered to a hand set the idiot behind the message then adds your number to yet another list and sells it on to yet another idiot whom in turn does exactly the same thing so one message received normaly leads on to countless other messages.

In short there is no way of stopping these sms messages yes you can forward them to your network whom I would add will do sweet fa about them as, A they cannot be bothered and B they deem it to expensive to police these idiots who send them out, the phone network operators in the UK are just plain lazy and think that this is just part of owning a phone and we as the individual should just put up with this annoying spam.

Depending upon which message you receive some are breaching UK guidlines and legislation, the sms message must have the individual's opt in agreement to be marketed to and also the actual message must contain the full Company name of either the sender or the business they are steering you towards, in total the unclaimed accident message that has been about for quite some time have a total of 7 different parts of the following acts breached, 1998 Data Protection Act & 2003 Electronic Communications EC Directive.

If you receive an sms and there is a number on there to contact the Company then I suggest you ring and state to them that they must remove your details forthwith, if there is no number listed and just the details to reply or opt out I normaly reply to them await the phone call and then tell them to remove/suppress my data straight away.

    It's spam, nothing more.

The clue is they claim to have an actual figure, which is a number plucked out of a hat, they pretend to have your 'records' but then say they don't know whether it's for a credit card or loan.

So the only information they actually have is your phone number, and they're hoping a certain percentage of people will be daft enough to reply in order to make it worthwhile.

I get them to and I am an IFA and never had PPI on anything. There is no database or record of people mis-sold. It doesnt work that way.

These are just scam texts that are possibly possibly advance fee fraud. i.e. give you the carrot of some hypothetical pay out but require you to pay £x up front.

Just to add, the message says reply INFO or STOP.

All these people are doing is trying to find active mobile numbers to sell to other idiots who will send you more spam.

If you reply STOP you have told them there is someone using the number. You will increase the amount of spam you receive.

The best action is to delete the message. Do not reply.

Most mobile networks allow you to forward these to 7726 (this equates to texting SPAM) so the numbers can quickly get closed down.

    DO NOT REPLY!!!...

It's the ONLY way we can ever hope to stop recieving these annoying messages.
If everyone just ignored these messages, they would stop. As it would no longer be viable for them to be sent, as the senders would not be getting any info on active phone numbers.
