2 ipods 1 computer

Options
Both me and OH have ipods. Our computer has itunes installed but when we plug in 2nd ipod it updates it with my OH's music (not my taste). How can i keep our itunes seperate. i dont mind using other software to store my music instead of itunes if nescessary. At the moment we have to keep deleting eachothers music from itunes when we want to update our own ipods.

Any help appreciated.

thanks

Do you share a login? If so then you could try (presuming you are using XP) using individual accounts. That way you can have completely separate iTunes catalogues.

Otherwise there are other applications you can use. I have some experience of MediaMonkey and Winamp, both of which work well with iPods.

    You could -

    1) Create two separate Windows XP login accounts, each with iTunes installed to separate the libraries.
    2) Keep one login, but sync your two iPods from separate iTunes playlist(s) rather than the whole library.
    3) Put one or both iPods into manual sync mode for music, then drag'n'drop the music you want from iTunes into each iPod when it's attached.

It's fairly simple, you just need to set your ipods to manually update. If you're using the latest Windows itunes (v7) then the following applies (pasted from itunes help):

You might want to manage songs on your iPod manually if you want to use your iPod with more than one computer, or if your iTunes library has more music than your iPod can hold.

To load songs onto iPod manually:
Connect your iPod to your computer.
When the iPod icon appears in the iTunes window (under Devices), select it.
If the Summary pane is not showing, click the Summary tab.
Select "Manually manage music." (If you have an iPod that displays video, the checkbox says "Manually manage music and video.")
Click Music (below Library, on the left side of the iTunes window) and then drag songs and playlists to your iPod.

It might be slightly different on a Mac or with an older version of itunes - if you've got either of those then try a search for manually managing music in the itunes help file.

it's easy to do i have 3 ipods on one pc and i am not using different logins.
all you have to do is make a playlist for each ipod (eg one Mrs Banger and one Banger).
in itunes on the devices (it shows your ipod )on summery have them all unticked except manually manage music, and then go to music and nothing should be ticked put you will get all songs and playlists grayed out (is on mine).
once you have done that you can put the music in each playlist and then drag the playlist into the ipod .
    thats how i do it
forgot you will get disk enable use grayed out in summery
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff

It is no longer necessary to have two different Windows accounts to maintain two seperate libraries

You can just hold down shift when clicking the Itunes library to create/choose a new library
