Claiming of DLA for Deafness and back dating

I do a lot of DLA forms for people, and what I always advise them to do is to fill out a 24 hour diary - listing everything they do, how tough (or not) it is to do things and what problems their daily lives cause them.
It's amazing how much of what we do in 24 hours can be painful/difficult/impossible- and it all helps when completing the forms.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

excellent advice Lin.
In the second letter I got - I more or less explain my life inside out and how going to the supermarkets can be a challenge
One question was can you hear the tannoy - yes but to me its bhah, bhah, bhah :(o I can't underatnd it - have have to get "help" to ask someone else to explain what it said. What I do find now days that people can be so nasty to someone when they are having issues to get by in life. 0 -
As well as BSL, I would recommend lipreading classes if you can find any locally, especially if you haven't had any formal help with this as an adult. I'm finding mine really useful, just in terms of getting out and meeting people who know how difficult it is to socialise!Signature removed for peace of mind0

)This has also been put on the forms as well.. So now the waiting game starts., 0 -
As I thought - I got a letter this morning as a refusal!
Well !!!!!! off ! Called the 0845 number and asked what the outcome that caused the claim to fail - They said:
"Because I can lip-read and ask people to repeat what they said - I can cope in the outside world" So beacuse I get help with my "body functions (hearing loss)" they think its okay - what a bunch off to**ers! By saying that they accepting that I have a hearing loss and a disablity as per the DDA.
I got 8 weeks now to gather paperwork and appeal.
Too right!0 -

Cherish - pleasse do - you have nothing to lose, but I would advise to get direct to CAB and get the welfare officer help on this (I didn't at first - have now)
Post 9 is the one that you need to fight on - what the DWP is saying is that I can cope in the world regarding my hearing - not the case I do need help at times. - but they define that as over 1 hour per day, to me I need the use of subtitles 1-2 hours aday for TV to help me understand (help with bodily functions)
Going ot speak to the council to get on the disable books as advised by CAB
- one step at a time. 0
