  • Crispy bacon rolls after stocking and presents are done before the big paper clear up, then off to see family for a few hours before coming back to cook a three bird joint, and trimmings (M&S this year) followed by the Christmas pudding cheesecake as we don't like Christmas pud much and sherry trifle. That will be us done for the day foodwise. Champagne for me in the evening and beer for hubby. Can't drink much due to being designated driver so it's an evening treat for me :

Boxing day we go over to my parents for another Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and dessert. Christmas Eve tends to be a buffet menu so we can finish decorating, cleaning and wrapping etc before the big day, lots of family fun so we like to be able to pick as the day goes on.

It has become a tradition in the Bennifred household (well - for the last 20 odd years, anyhow) to have crispy duck pancakes etc instead of the turkey roast.
It all started one year when OH was working Christmas Day when the boys were little and I asked them what they'd like for dinner if they could have anything at all.......... Now there is outrage if I suggest anything else, lol!

We were talking about this night.
Even though i live alone, i enjoy cooking and always do proper meals. But last night was talking to a girl on PoF, and wanting her to feel sorry for me i said Christmas Dinner would probably be turkey flavour Pot Noodle.

I talk to everyone and see what they'd like to eat, and then make a mix of everything. For example, we don't really like roast turkey, but a roast shoulder of pork is ideal - that would be in the oven to serve with other snack-type things that are available - stuffing balls, salad, cheeses, quiches, sausages wrapped in bacon, crackers... We're not big on a full-on roast, but this way is festive enough and easy enough. I can prepare most of it earlier in the year and freeze it until needed then make the most of the oven space by lining up quiches and canapes on trays to cook while the pork is roasting.

And on the odd occasion it is just Hubs and I, I do a roast chicken, stuffing, veg, proper roasties and gravy. My idea of bliss.

    Very traditional in our house....
Usually have waffles, croissant, brioche or similar for breakfast.

Lunch is full on roast turkey (free range from the butcher), roast potato and parsnip, sausage in bacon, stuffing, Cardiff, peas, Brussels, cranberry sauce and gravy. Pudding is something small like lemon posset as all full.

Evening is cold buffet with Xmas pud and clotted cream. Coming from cornwall I was registered the one year we could not find any up here.
  • breakfast - pre present opening 7amish - normal cereal and toast. but usually get some new posh jam or lemon curd or something
Lunch - around 12.30pm - turkey crown and topside beef, rost potatoes and parsnips, bacon and sausages, sprouts, yorkshires, carrots and peas, leeks in creamy mustard sauce or cauli cheese............ Xmas pudding or plums in port or frozen cheesecake etc
tea - around 5ish - cold meat, crackers, cheese, pickles, bread

once the kids are in bed???? all those goodies we've kept hidden!!!!!
  • Very traditional in this house. Bacon butties for breakfast then at about three we have a full on roast - turkey, ham and all the trimmings. Only me, OH and DS (2) but I will end up cooking enough for ten. I cant help myself. Probably nothing for an evening meal - just nibbles if we feel like them.
