We are getting married in June and brought our rings today
ETA - sorry that wasn't very helpful! I've been looking since a few months after we got engaged and to be honest, if you see one you love - get it! I'm sure some people think 7 months in advance is too early but I love my ring and it's the only one I've seen I even remotely liked so I've got it!First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! OH and I have been engaged 4 wks.
We've narrowed down a venue we really like, although seeing one more tomorrow. We've also identified a church we'd like, just need to see the Vicar. I've got 2 samples of Save the date cards en route from Vistaprint.
Yesterday we went into town and had a look at wedding bands, as these are forming a large part of the budget, ideally £500 for both max. OH is torn between two options, one is massively affordable, another is personalised but equally nice if a little more expensive. I've found the perfect one, totally. I've put £25 refundable deposit down on it, which freezes it at it's current price and gives me until January to decide if i really want to buy. Either way, both will come in below budget.
So, my question is, given we're not getting married until Summer 2013 is it too early to buy wedding bands? Or, is this a potentially money saving idea given that prices might rise?
Thanks in advance,

Wow, great question. I really don't think there is a right or wrong answer. My general thoughts
*There is something smart about seeing an item you like and getting it right away, if you know what you need. If you can get it now, why not? I know for a fact the price of gold and diamonds is through the roof and is only supposed to rise in the future. If you wait, you might end up paying more.
*SHopping for e-rimgs and wedding bands is hard and time consuming. If you already found something you like, you're saving yourself a lot of hassle in the future.
My husband and I ended up getting my engagement ring and our wedding bands shortly before our wedding. Too soon by most people's standards. But we're very last minute kind of people. We book flights last minute and stuff like that. It wasn't a usual situation. He travels a lot to the USA and there are more options there and JamesAllen.com is a great online jeweler who had what i wanted (and they ship to the UK for free).
my one big piece of advice is if you do get it early, i wouldn't talk too much to friends and family about it. they probably don't want to hear about all the wedding stuff this far in advance.0 -
We are also getting married in Summer 2013, and have an appointment with a ringmaker in November, that we intend to buy from, so I don't think it's too early at all. But then I am a very organised person....and like to have everything done well in advance. We have already sorted:
church
afternoon/evening venue
photographer
cars
my dress
colour scheme
Another thing to bear in mind is that the prices of metals is only liekly to go up, not down."More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them." - Harold J. Smith:cool:0 -
We bought ours in the January sale - they were half price, at £500 for the pair!!!
We bought them because we fell in love with them and could not afford the full price....
They don't sell these rings any more, so we are SO pleased that we bought them when we did...
No right or wrong answers, just what suits you...
Good luck

I'd thought it would be easy to find a weding band so left it until a couple of months to go - big mistake! I found there was very little choice (plain, diamonds or 'modern' - none of which I wanted) and had a huge panic - but with 5 weeks to go I was recommended a fantastic local jeweller who made me a unique ring in time and it cost the same as the compromise one I was going to have to buy (it was ok, but I didn't love it!). Had I known about him I'd have go thim to make my engagement ring too - I just thought it would be so much more expensive (I got my wedding band made, 2 rings altered size, 2 handmade necklaces for BMs for about £450).
So - to cut a long story short - if you love it, buy it when you see it!0 -
Never too soon!! We bought our wedding rings on Holiday in Cyprus about 5 years ago!! We have yet to set the date!! :rotfl:
