When's too early to buy Wedding Bands?

Morning All!
OH and I have been engaged 4 wks.
We've narrowed down a venue we really like, although seeing one more tomorrow. We've also identified a church we'd like, just need to see the Vicar. I've got 2 samples of Save the date cards en route from Vistaprint.
Yesterday we went into town and had a look at wedding bands, as these are forming a large part of the budget, ideally £500 for both max. OH is torn between two options, one is massively affordable, another is personalised but equally nice if a little more expensive. I've found the perfect one, totally. I've put £25 refundable deposit down on it, which freezes it at it's current price and gives me until January to decide if i really want to buy. Either way, both will come in below budget.
So, my question is, given we're not getting married until Summer 2013 is it too early to buy wedding bands? Or, is this a potentially money saving idea given that prices might rise?
Thanks in advance,

I've heard that you should aim to get your wedding rings at least 6 months before the wedding. But, if you are sure these are the ones you want and you have somewhere safe to keep them then I dont see that there would be a problem getting them now. We have a year to go and and are looking at our rings now.
The only other thing is whether you will be able to get them re sized if you need to. We are losing weight for our wedding and I know that when I lose a stone or more, my fingers tend to slim down too.:)0 -
That's a good question and I'm thinking the same! I only want something simple as I have tiny size I fingers and I've seen a plain 2.5mm 18ct White gold band from a company on eBay for £110 which is over £100 cheaper than a similar one I tried on in h samuel (that was a heavier one)
I'm really tempted as it's such a good price but knowing me I'll buy and then change my mind lolSaving my pennies for my wedding on 10th August 2013!:j

Hi,
We get married in Sept 2012 & we went to the Jewellery Quater in August & got our rings, they are now in my parents safe. They were a large part of our budget too & we had the money & can't pay out for anything else yet so it was something we could get sorted & I was getting impatient:rotfl:
If you really like it & won't change your mind & not planning on losing loads of weight then go for it, it's one thing off your to do listMarried the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.0 -
gold prices are supposed to come down in the new year
Have you checked Betts Metal as a hobbyist...the prices are so good on there...gonna order mine there I think:jMarried on 12.12.12 to the best man alive! - FACT!:j0 -
Weight & fashion shouldn't really be a concern - my expectation when I got my engagement & wedding rings was that I'd be wearing them for the rest of my life - so when i chose it was with that in mind...
Metal prices, however, are quite high just now - so any intelligence about what was expected to happen with that might be useful.
It can also help with budgetting if you see what you want now, get it & pay for it now then it is one less thing to pay for later.0 -
I bought my wedding ring last month, I don't get married until July 2013. I was going to wait until closer to the date but when I went to Pandora to pick up my new engagement ring and they had the ring I wanted in stock in my size I bought it and put it away.
I wasn't worried about prices changing as it was silver and only £35 but it was the ring I wanted and I thought if I couldn't get it in the future I would be rather disappointed.0 -

On the other hand, a lot can happen in (almost 2 years) and what you buy for a lot of pounds now could be worth pennies on the second hand market.
Save the money, buy nearer the time.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

My Mrs got hers pretty much first thing when we were engaged.
I got mine a couple of weeks before the day.
Don't think it made a lot of difference either way.0 -
If you buy it now, you run the risk of gold prices falling, or finding somethingyou likeeven more later.
If youdon't buy it now, you run the risk of the price rising, or it sellingout and you not being abletofind something you like asmuch.
So which risk doyou prefer?I personally feel that if it is within budget and you loveitthen just get it. It'll giveyou more timeto find other bargains elsewhere. I ordered my ring with well overayear togo, andnow just have to resist thetemptation to keep trying it on!
Marrying my lovely man on 1st September 2012

The only thing I would say is that buying wedding rings is really easy. As the day approaches, you'll be thankful of every item on your giant list you've got ticked off, so I'd be inclined to do it earlier than later - so you have one thing less to worry about, at least.0
