Would be nice if it was offered to all dog owners not just benefits recievers as its so expensive and it only really costs about £35 to do but we got charged £120 for our smallish female...grrrr.
And they wonder why dogs homes are full, if vets didn't rip us off more people could afford to keep their dogs...sorry rant over
Also whilst whinging i'm bumping0 -

I do have sympathy for the vets because I know just how long they've had to study, and the overheads of a vet surgery are HUGE (plus a callout from a vet is cheaper than from a plumber, electrician etc)
BUT, I'm totally on your side with the neutering. I used to run a 'normal ' rescue and rehome cat rescue, offering free neutering for farm and other feral cats.
BUT,we now run free cat neutering for ALL in our immediate area, because it can be people in work with mortgages who are struggling to make ends meet. It also means that people can get wild strays that they feed done. Its been a huge success- we've done 100's of females (we do males as well). Its prevented more unwanted kittens being born in our area than we could ever in my lifetime have rehomed, and yet the cost has only been the same as if we had been full with kittens all sumnmer, having to pay for the bloodtests, worming, defleaing, microchipping and vaccs etc. People just give a donation towards the cost, or even a donation of goods for us to sell in our charity shops.
We've now got several vets all giving us the same reduction (not a lot, but it all helps)
My 2 wishes are that
1)all rescues would throw evey resource they,ve got into neutering- particularly the RSPCA who could run mobile neutering clinics.
2)Breeders who sell their offspring should be made to pay future neutering costs.
Lastly, one way to keep dog neuring costs down is to have a slim dog. Basically, fat dog= far longer surgery time=higher charge.
I will now climb down off my soapbox.
(Guess what is my overwhelming passion in life is- preventing unwanted pets)
Last bit before I shut up- THANKS TO ALL, FOR THE GRABBITS THAT I CAN THEN USE IN FUNDRAISING BECAUSE I HATE SHOPS BUT WILL GO IN IF IT HELPS THE CATS.DONT BREED OR BUY WHILE HOMELESS ANIMALS DIE. GET YOUR ANIMALS NEUTERED TO SAVE LIVES.0 -

Your post is great :T I understand about vets but everything is so dear from them and people on low incomes need help to keep their pets as well i agree.
And i agree on breeders maybe then they wouldn't be so keen to use their dogs as cash cows.
Keep up the good work x
I am pleased to say my dog is a skinny whippet/staff cross, best £50 we've ever spent....oh yea plus vets fees lol0 -

Think the offer does give discounts to people not on benefits but not sure what level. But to be fair this is being funded by Dogs Trust not the vets so I guess they have to limit it somehow - would be nice if the vets gave people incentives too.Bumping up ,my daughter is on her way as I type ,hope she qualifies for a voucher, shes a single mum ,on benenifits well done for posting ,she wouldnt have known about the scheme as her computer is broken .
She should do - hope she has got it.0 -

I expect the charity have identified a need in the area, with limited funds they have to target places where they can make the biggest difference. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0
