Good idea. I'm always a sucker for buying a can of coke at lunch. So I bring in sandwiches, fruit and a chocolate bar, but end up spending 40p on a can of coke too.
I'm going to try and stop doing that.
Also, just as a thought. I was thinking the other day of trying to use up all the odds and ends in my cupbaords for dinner. So rather than go shopping, I'll use up th ebit of pasta, or the soup in the backup of the cupboard. Or the frozen veg that's been in the freezer for a year.
Get rid of it all.
Good idea about the lunch thing. I'll try it this week sometime.Amo L'Italia0 -
I'm going to join in too. I've worked out that I currently spend £11.50 a week on my packed lunch but I'm going to try and get it down to £5.00 a week. Admittedly a fiver of the £11.50 goes on pepsi max (a 2l bottle a day = £1 a day). So need to cut that down, but still get my caffeine fix (not a coffee drinker). Other than that I have the same boring ham sandwiches every day plus crisps, chocolate bar and a banana - I don't mind routine though, it means not having to think too much when I'm rushing in the morning!!Me in statistics

I take packed lunches to work everyday but I still spend between £7 and £10 per week at the moment. I'm def up for joining this challenge and trying to get it down a bit... although it mostly goes on fruit. I have started planning my evening meals to accomodate a couple of lunches a week at work too... we have a microwave here & I find leftovers often taste better the day after!

Cous cous salad is one of my faves... I treat myself to a jar of red or green pesto (it lasts a few weeks and perks up pasta salads a treat too!)... fry up whatever veg we have left over (onions, leeks, peppers etc) and stir that through the cous cous with some pesto... yum yum yum! Especially with some pita bread and houmous!
I'm not big on sandwiches tho - not a bread fan, so that limits my options a fair bit... will def check back here for some ideas.0 -

One thing you can do is to buy those "self-seal" sandwich bags (I got mine from Tesco), quarter fill them with water, and lie them down in your freezer. They will freeze flat. If you need them shaped to go round a bottle or something, then put a cylinder (like a rolling pin) in your freezer first and lie the bag on top. It will freeze in that curved shape.
It'll keep a bottle of champers cool for over 24 hrs."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

I'm not quite sure how you worked that one out... 99p per day, 5 days a week is £4.95 a week, or £21.45 pcm. Or have I missed something?"Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Why not buy a multi-pack of coke? 6-packs of coke are always on bogof in the supermarket or try the pound shop... not that I am a great coke fan...
Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -

It kept me thinking for about 4 hrs... I still didn't manage to work it out! Divvy me!!!!!!!! (PSssssssst - not sure Carol Voderman would have been able too either PAP!!!)Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
Definitely up for this; I usually make a crockpot of something at the weekend to take with couscous or bulgar wheat (just add boiling water to these at lunchtime) - turkey curry, chilli, lentil and veg soup then pour into sandwich bags and freeze...I'd be up for some new ideas which don't take much preparation (leave for work early morning and tend not to make sarnies the night before as they go soggy!) and are mega-healthy. Costs vary, but I'll remember to tot it up next week.0
