Problem With My Credit Score / Credit Card **Help**

Hi i bit of a long one but i don't really know who / where else to ask basically i had a credit card with sygma bank uk (creation finance) and throughout no fault of my own was unable to pay the card. I am just asking for a bit of advice really, as i cannot open a student bank account.

This is the e-mail i sent the company

______________________________________________________

Dear Sir / Madam
I had an account with yourselves (Leeds United MasterCard) from July 2009 until august 2011. In February 2010 I was involved in a motorcycle crash and was in a coma for 7 months. Getting out of Hospital in September 2010, a full 9 months after the crash.
During this time i had an account with yourselves that became defaulted. My parents did not see it fit to step in with my financial dealings during this period and where unaware I had an account with you. My account with yourselves was defaulted and i presume was handed over to a debt management company.
When i felt well enough to get back to daily life i started to get all sorts of problems financially as i could not work. I then decided to deal with my financial problems and borrowed £1328 off my parents to settle this account with yourselves.
Since this i have taken my A levels and I am now at University. I have no money coming in and have tried to apply for student bank accounts and have been rejected everywhere. I have looked into this and it is because this account "defaulted" through no fault of my own giving me a horrendous credit score.
I therefore would ask you please would you remove this from my credit file as the account was settled in one full payment when i was well enough to do so. This is now having such a huge bearing on my life and makes life extremely difficult for me at this moment in time. It is the only credit card i have ever had and now i cannot obtain credit anywhere making life extremely difficult. Please will you remove this so i can start again.
I look forward to your hopefully positive response.
Yours Sincerely

Sorry for the difficulties you've had in recent times, certainly a lackluster position to be in, but at least you've pushed through and managed to carry on with University. Kudos.

In this instance, however, creation are correct. Your fault or not, the data is a true representation to what happened with your Creation Mastercard and if Creation were to report anything different to the credit reference agencies they would be in breach of Data Protection for reporting false and inaccurate data.

You can add a "Notice of Correction" to your credit file explaining why the default is there which creditors have to read before making a decision but I fear you will still likely have to wait until the default is a few years old before being a candidate for prime candidate again.

No matter, you'll do well to be without credit through uni, you'll come out with much better budgeting skills and much less debt than your fellow students :o

If you have the evidence of the crash and hospitalisation send them a copy, they may look differnet but are not obliged
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Don't waste your/their time doing that.

They are obliged to report the facts, i.e. your payments were late.
  • Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you are on the mend.

I had troubles opening a student account before I went to university. Everyone turned me down apart from Lloyds who I had been for 5 years. Have you tried a bank that you have history with?

If you can prove you was in a coma for 7 months the lender may consider updating your payment history for you as a GOGW.

Photos will not help the bank do not know what you look like.

You would need a letter from your GP or Hospital confirming the circumstances.
