insurance4carhire - Any good?

All,

We are off to Australia for a month and we were looking into getting a car hire during our visit.

The CDW is like $30 a day...

We were looking to get the car hire insurance for our carhire via http://www.insurance4carhire.com/ , which seems to cover all excess.

Has anyone ever used them, and are they any good in the event of a claim?

Thanks

Ram

Yes. Had some bumper damage in Italy. They paid up with no hassle whatsoever.
Better insurance than is included with Super CDW. Recommended.

I bought an annual policy and have hired cars twice since then, 8 days in Spain and 10 days in Florida. I like the idea that I am covered and just pick the best price for the car rental.

The queues at Hertz and Avis desks at airports also seem to be shorter than others and more convenient from the arrivals.

Hi Jeanna, I go to Florida regularly and found that using https://www.holidayautos.com are the best. Apparently Alamo, Dollar etc do not include damage to wheels, tyres, windscreen etc (I refer to them as incidentals) in their insurance cover. I investigaged this substantially and discovered that Holiday Autos do not charge for excess reimbursement unless you specifically request to buy their cover (more expensive). Having spoken to Holiday Autos you do need to buy your own excess reimbursement to cover the incidentals. I bought my excess reimbursement cover from https://www.atlasdirect.net and the cover cost me £57 for one year - one off cover is slightly cheaper. I double checked with Alamo when I arrived at Fort Myers who advised me that I was fully insured for CDW etc but not the incidentals. I had checked out loads of car rental agencies here like USRentaCar, All States Car Hire, in the UK and none actually allow rentals without the CDW insurance and even tho they were more expensive than Holiday Autos they did confirm that their cover did not include excess reimbursement.

Although Alamo and the other 'big boys' are fairly reasonable I have read horror stories where people have had to pay out for damage to incidentals - and on one occasion one bloke refused to budge until they checked it out and discovered the damage had been logged, and paid for, quite some time previously. Needless to say he didn't cough up for it again!

Alamo are now also charging 40 bucks if you have to call the breakdown out because the battery has died, as I discovered in December. The car had been temperamental so I know it was not me leaving lights on. I kept the motor and sure enough the battery died again - not only did Alamo forego the charge they also delivered another car to the house and took the dead 'un away! My guess would be that your excess reimbursement would cover you should your battery die and you are unable to prove that it was not down to you leaving lights on.

    Kind regards, Christine

    Hi,

I was going to hire a car for local travel but the excess insurance from atlasdirect will not cover any car hire within 150kms of my residence. Anyone know of others who will do this? I don't want an annual cover and the only other option is to get it from the rental agency which will cost me about £12 for the day.

    Cheers!

I also have this insurance4carhire policy i got back in jan 2009 as i was in oz for a month it worked out less for me than what it was for car hire insurance, cant remember back then now if i took the excess out with the car or left it out, well ihad this policy anyway.
My policy is still valid as its for 12 months so i can use this again, but this time the car hire places i was thinking of hire from ask for the extra excess or you can purchase it,as i have this policy i am wondering if its worth getting the excess they as for or i can just use my above policy again as thats what i go it for really.
i read that above poster claimed and got quickly paid out,how long did this take and was there a lot of stress involved to get it i wonder,i would rather save some money by not getting it if this policy does the same,i will be taking a car for a month so it would amount up,advise on this would be good
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.

Be careful in the US, if you use some firms it is in the terms that you cannot use a third party insruance.
