I am going to get quotes for building and contents insurance.

Is there any advantage to getting quotes in joint names as against just having me as the policy holder?

There is only the 2 of us living in the house and are married to each other.

    Do you know about Quidco

This is a Money saving site after all.

Don't know one way or the other about your question ..But hope you gets some cash back :)
  • The main advantage is in the case of a significant incident that causes damage to both building and contents that you only have a single organisation to deal with and, hopefully, avoid issues of one insurer claiming its the other insurers responsibility to do something with you stuck in the middle.

It can be cheaper to buy separately, sometimes cheaper to buy combined.

I assume you are in fact, talking about joint POLICY HOLDERS NOT joint or combined policies when you ask this question?

Yes, is it not clear enough?

THIS IS ABOUT HAVING THE POLICY IN MY AND MY WIFE'S NAME.

    OK now?
  • Ok, should read things properly

The benefits of having a partner on a policy is that either party can then talk to the insurer. No questions of validity of claims at a later date for your partners items (more relevant in cases of non-matching surnames or unmarried couples etc). If for any reason you need a policy in just one name in the future then there is proof of NCD (eg death of one of the policyholders)

Disadvantage is that they can talk to either party and have known couples that have split play up with cancelling cover for items etc.

Depending on each partners age and gender and if AD cover is included or not there can be premium advantages. For example a young male adding his older female partner would see a premium reduction - could be cheaper still just to have it in her name but then you also have to consider who has the larger NCD to bring to the table.

Wasn't ME that didn't get it, if you read through the responses.
I was merely trying to gently point it out without being accused of being the language police.;)
