Hi Everyone,
I am having a problem with the radio in my car.It is a factory fitted RDS 6000 cd/radio.
The cd player works fine, but the radio wont work.
It will scan for radio stations but all you can hear is the fuzzy noise you hear while re tuning a radio.
I have bought a new ariel and partner has checked all wiring and it all seems to be ok but still no radio.
Please can anyone offer any advice as to what the problem could be before I buy another.
TIA Helen.

There may be an aerial amplifier which has failed? Don't know if the focus has one - sorry0

Had the same problem - you'll need a new head unit, got mine off eBay for £35 locally although you can get them cheaper.
Luckily our neighbour had the same unit in his car and I asked if I could use his to troubleshoot to save me spending any money on other possible problems.0 -
Thankyou for your replies,
Off to look on ebay and fingers crossed will grab myself a bargain.0 -
Hi looking for a bit more advice please.
I have just discovered unit has a self test facility which i have done .:D
The radio found stations that although you could hear they still had that fuzzy noise.
Could it be that I need a new antenna(how would i check) or could it still be that I need a new unit.

Not sure this will be of any help and I'm not looking to contradict any other advice you've been given.
I have a Mondeo with a similar factory fitted radio/ cd player.
Last year during the times of minus 18 degrees I managed to knock the roof mounted aerial and it snapped. Prior to that the reception for lots of stations was excellent. In fact quite often I might have gone and sat in the car to receive a bbc radio station from another area which I may have struggled to receive indoors.
I ordered a replacement aerial off ebay and to say the reception is now poor is an understatement. In fact I seem to get better tuning after having taken the aerial lead, which runs from the rear of the radio, away from the aerial unit and let it hang loose. Occasionally I hold the end of the cable and the reception improves lots, I'm no expert but I'm wondering if there is an earth issue.0 -
Check for corrosion inside the roof around the aerial hole where the aerial cable earths to the body.0

I have noticed that with the engine off some stations are not too bad reception wise, but the minute you turn it on the reception is poor and I have to start scanning for stations again.
I havent checked back of radio yet as I am prone to breaking electrical items. Will get other half to check that when he comes in.
