While going through some programs on my pc i have found some DAT files which i cannot open i am running ecel and word 2007
and the dat files where originally set up in 1997c can anyone help

.DAT files are non associated data files to Windows. Try opening them in notepad and see if anything displayed gives you a clue as to what they contain.0

As above, .dat files are used by numerous programs. Because there is typically no standard association between a .dat file and an application, they are not generally intended to be opened directly by a user.
If you don't know what a .dat file is for, don't mess with it. Some critically important system files have a .dat extension, and the system may not boot if you alter them.0
