HI All
ive just had a sqiz onthe internet for a usb powered printer but i cant find nada.
i know the output from the usb port is negligible but ive got a scanner that powered purely via usb.
Any ideas if they make em. It just has to do b/w if possible. or even firewire
Thanks
MM

most printers are either usb 1.1 or mostly usb 2.0 [2 is faster than 1.1].
if you dont have a usb 2 port, its backward compatible with your system anyway.
just go for a printer you like but with serperate colours and use compatiables if you can to save dosh - ie if one runs out - just replace it; but a single multi coloured cart you'd have to buy the whole thing again = wasting money and environment0 -
Can't imagine a printer powered from a USB port - even portable printers.
Even today there's a lot more moving hardware in a printer than there is in a scanner - paper feed for example0 -
The only USB powered printer I know of....

used to have a usb powered scanner myself in the old days, never seen a usb powered printer though, I've just got myself a new all in one from ebuyer.com which was only £35 quid and the inks (it only needs one) are about £18 quid from https://www.choicestationery.com lexmark x3350 not bad really as its a photo all in one printer.metalmickey wrote:HI All

thanks,
Ive had a quick ask around the office and theyve suggested a printer thats mains powered, but has battery backup.
any ideas?
Its for "in-car" use
thanks0 -
consider an inverter ? takes car 12v and converts to 240v , although check the required wattage
maplins have them example

Cool thats great,
i'll check it out, i found a canon bjc-50 aswell thats battery op too.0 -
I'd second the "get an inverter" idea.
I imagine there's way too much energy used in printing to power from a USB...0
