Electric Meter Checks

Hi Guys

If a electric company does not check your meter every 2 years which i believe is now required by law where does this leave a customer in relation to inconsistent and over charged estimated bills?

Thanks

The customer could read the meter themselves and let the electricity company know that reading. The customer would then receive an accurate bill which is neither inconsistent nor overcharged.

You have to pay for your actual usage. If you had checked your bills on receipt and advised correct readings then they would have rebilled you on the correct readings.

Not what i asked is it?

I asked what if th company does not check the meter as required by law! Not what the customer should or shouldnt have done!

You still have to pay the (correct) bill for the energy you have used.
Why don't you tell us the actual situation instead of posting hypothetical questions?

they dont just go wrong, the legislation only fully applys to gas. Electric legislation is layed back and doesnt say must read, but attempts to read
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Think it's been said but the company must attempt to read/inspect the meter. If the meter man calls & there's no one in, the resposibility is the customers.
If the meter has not been seen for 2 years, most companies will have a procedure, which could eventually lead to a warrant if they can't get in, as reading is a licence condition.

Just wondering have you been receiving the estimated bills and ever queried them? Im sure if you had phoned your supplier they could have told you if the bills were based on SCHEDULED ESTIMATE or NO ACCESS ESTIMATE which i hope self exlanatory. Unfortunately if the companies dont hear from a customer then the computers will continue to process estimated bills based on what it thinks a customer is using.

You use the word "check" and the phrase "check your meter".

Just a thought....Do you mean: check = read

    or

Do you mean: check = ascertain the accuracy of the meter's measuring ability?

The 2 things are not connected. As said the supplier only has to attempt every 2 years and this time resets every time you change supplier (unlike gas). In terms of readings to obtain accurate bills most supplier require you (under their T&Cs) to submit meter readings twice a year.

Is there a reason behind the question?
