If the ticket machine says £x per 2 hours, but the council says £y (not all machines / notices have been updated it seems) ..

..would any subsequent parking ticket be valid?

I almost got caught out, getting a P&D ticket for a friends car- put in the usual amount*, but noticed only 30 mins (the lower time choice) given..

Council suggested i get ANOTHER ticket later, or from another machine (which did have right price!..), and they would take my details to send a refund..

I know its not big money involved, unless a fine was made, more the principal of incorrect prices being on display, and the machine taking my money-
so forming a contract?

* two rates, one for 30 mins, one for 2 hours. 2 hour rate been used / set at the same for ages.,

See my location, I am near you, actually...;)

And IMHO the Council would issue a PCN in this situation and knowing Brighton & Hove they would argue all the way to adjudication. Then they would lose, one would hope.

Arguing a 'PCN is invalid' to any Council is a tall order but with Brighton they are one of the worst. There are also LOADs of non-compliant parking bays - the roads north of Western Road spring to mind, just one area among many - the Council know it but still issue tickets there every day. And they make no attempt to burn off the offending extra white lines.

So I think the answer is beware when in Brighton as we have the highest PCN-issuing rate behind London I think. :)
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
