Cost of garden fence

Hi
Fence blew away in wind last week, friend of a friend said he would re do it.
Its about 40ft long, said wont be panels but instead long runs with slates nailed to it, a good one?
Does £400 sound okay or too dear?

  • No idea about the cost of building a fence from scratch, but we are just replacing ours....

9 panels cost £134 (incl delivery charge) which is a length of about 54 feet . My DH is doing it so no labour charge.

  • The cost of the materials alone excluding delivery would be about £250-£300.
So I would say thats ok.
I am basing this on my own experiance of replacing a panel fence with a 6ft high slated fence with 3 rails for holding the slats and replacing all the posts with 4 inch x 4 inch 1.8 meter posts (fence also needs a lot of screws as well as about 2 bags of post fix to hold the posts after you have dug the old posts out LOL)

Sounds about right to me. I think from the sounds of it you mean the featheredge boards which are a very good solid fence in my experience. We always choose to have this sort of fencing, although more expensive than panels but longer lasting.

If you mean the type of fence with posts and cross members, and the slats nailed to it, then I would defiantely go for it.
My neighbours ordinary panel fence blew down also, and a couple of other neighbours, but our fence stayed intact, didnt budge an inch, and for that alone I would recommend it.
And it does look nicer specially when you have your plants grown against it.:D
