What is one called?
Mine is only c.1 metre long ... do they make them longer, say 3 metres?

it's just called a monitor cable.
there's all kinds of sizes u can buy!

You can get an extension if one end is fixed (non-removable) to the monitor - eBay search. G0

It will either be a standard VGA cable or a DVI cable (digital). Depends on what connections your graphics card has. The colour of the VGA connector is usually blue with 2 rows of pins so you can identify it that way. The DVI connector is bigger and usually white/cream with 3 rows of pins.0
