How to move a fridge freezer (manual handling, not technical advice)

Hi All
I usually post over on the OldStyle board, so apologies for barging straight in here with a new thread - I couldn't find anything to do with this using search.
We have just moved into a second floor flat and are looking to buy a secondhand fridge freezer (gumtree or similar). I know that I need to leave the thing for a few hours before turning it on after having it on its side, but my question is how exactly do I go about moving it?
A friend has agreed to drive us but I'm not sure how we go about carrying it out of the house it is currently in and hefting it up the stairs to our flat. There will be two of us and my other half is fairly strong but I'm a bit on the weedy side (and have chronic back/neck problems). How many extra people are we likely to need, and will we need any 'specialist' equipment?
I'm having nightmares about the thing sliding down the stairs and crushing one of us!!
any advice very gratefully received
thanks

Two strong men, you to open doors/navigate and a van.0

two average blokes can move it fairly easily. they aint that heavy.
full of fresh air remember.
a sack truck or similar will be handy for the level bits. to the car/van.
if going up the stairs is hard work, then take a breather half way up. or every landing.
a pair of sticky grip yellow gloves is useful.

Brilliant, thanks very much everyone! Great tip on the gloves, going to see if I can persuade work to let me take a mail trolley home (unlikely, but shy girls get nowt, eh?)
Thanks again

If its too heavy still, you could probably remove the doors, they normally can be switched to open from either side. There will then also be something to hold on to. But as above, they're not that heavy.0
