B&Q Guarantee failure.

B&Q staff at the Washington branch(Tyne&Wear)have been told that they do not have to honour 3 Year Guarantees. Could someone clarify this please. I personaly believe they are responsible, having been a follower of this site for Years. P.S. Mark in Management at this branch has a lousy idea of the meaning of customer service.

It depends on who is/was providing the guarantee I guess. If the item was sold with a 3 year manufacturers guarantee and the manufacturer has gone out of business then it's tough luck. If it is/was a B&Q guarantee and was in effect at the time of sale then they are obliged to honour it, but they can apply any terms they like. (But can't CHANGE the terms after sale).
Of course, you always still have rights under SOGA, but after 6 months it is your responsibility to prove that any fault was inherent (present at the point of sale but not apparent) and not caused by misuse.0
