The Icesave website for the online savings say
"Making your initial deposit
You can make an initial deposit by
* cheque from a UK bank or building society account in your name(s)
Please make cheques payable to 'name of applicant(s) plus application reference number*', eg Mrs A Wells 00001234.
* transferring money electronically from another UK bank or building society account in your name(s)
Please contact your bank or building society to transfer money. Electronic transfer is by BACS. When asked for a reference number for the payment, please quote your name(s) and application reference number*. This will ensure we can allocate the payment to your account. You will also need to provide them with the following information:
Our Account number: Our Sort Code:"
I have a chequebook for Natwest, I though to apply to Icesave, you write the cheque to Icesave and just sign it, so you are transfering the money from Natwest to Icesave rather then writing the cheque to yourself? Does Natwest have to pay me a cheque, or can I write it myself in my Natwest chequebook?
Is there any differences? Do Icesave not accept cheques written to them. I was able to pay a cheque to Yorkshire rather then paying myself. Also, I would though it would be better doing a bank transfer? As a 3k for example through the post isn't completely safe?
I have an action savers account at Abbey, the person I spoke to said I can't get a cheque book. If I wanted to transfer money to another bank, I would be charged £20, or they can write a cheque to myself free of charge. Does this mean they can write me a cheque, paid to me and I can send it to Icesave so I can save £20?
Thanks for any replies

There's some supplementary information here :-
http://www.apacs.org.uk/payment_options/cheques_draft_changes.html
In this case you write a (Natwest) cheque out and sign it in the normal way. But you make it payable to yourself (not to IceSave) and add the IceSave account number afterwards - as thus ......'RobLondon1984 (IceSave Account No)'. Obviously substituting your correct name and the proper account number! If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Thanks, how about if Abbey write me a cheque rather then writing it myself? as I can't get a chequebook. Can I add the Icesave account number on it if they write it to me?0 -

Abbey won't write a cheque .. they print it. So you give them all the detail they need on the payee line - in order it doesn't look as though it's been altered.
And ...as previous post .. where did the NatWest cheque disappear to?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

I do plan to use that as well for another savings account. Its just that I have an abbey saving account that I want to transfer money out off.0 -

I can write the Natwest cheque myself, so theres not a problem there. Its just with Abbey, that won't give me a cheque book. If they print it, can I still use it to apply to Icesave?0 -

Of course .... provided they make it out the way IceSave require (ie made payable to you - and with account number following your name)If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
