Oh and for kitchen stuff, check out the bins round the BACK of charity shops. They throw out a lot of kitchen stuff, odd bits of bedding, lamps (but get them checked) and other small electricals that they cannot sell.

  • Please someone correct if im wrong or out of date etc, but im sure the salvation army do furniture packs ie a sofa, bed, crockery, utensils etc. for a set price. i have had to "start again" more than once and was helped by them a great deal. May be a regional/area specific thing but worth a try, good luck xx

I'm aware of furniture charities like Emmaus who offer discounts to those in receipt of benefits. There may be other furniture charities in the OPs local area.

  • I found Britsh Heart Foundation to be very good. They have a furniture shop in our town and I used it when I moved into my place last year.

They have all the furniture you want, and also electrical goods. (Some charity shops can't sell or even gice away electrical goods because of Health and Safety...our BHF have volunteer electricians who check, repair and guarantee all electrical goods).

They are also willing to listen to 'reasonable' haggling!
