europarks phonecall

Hi, i had a europark ticket back in July, after following advice on here, i have ignored the two letters so far, however, I'm in a state of panic now, as i unwittingly answered my landline phone today, and when they said " can i Speak to......"? dozy me innocently said "Speakin" he said "Hello .... I'm calling from europarks". I panicked, and hung up. My Mobile has since rang with an '0800' number that i didn't recognise, so i ignored. Is My Time up, do i have to admit defeat, and pay? Please help, I'm a real worrier at the best of times.

You are doing fine. Having ignored the letters you now ignore the 'phone calls.

Eventually they will give up and go away. It is bit like a staring match, the one that blinks first loses.

Do you mean 'Euro Car Parks' I presume? Is it them ringing, or a debt collector for them?

Your time is never up with them - you owe them nothing and they NEVER do Court anyway. So, time to call their bluff and shut them up.

Have some wording ready; if it is ECP themselves say this:

'the alleged debt is DENIED so I insist you stop calling me and writing to me, and do not pass the file to a debt collector. If you do not take the matter to Court and send me confirmation that you have done so, within 14 days of today, I will consider the matter closed. Any other correspondence or calls without Court, will be reported as harassment and no added costs will be allowed. This is your chance to sort the matter out in Small Claims - do so or close the file.'

And if it is a debt collector on behalf of ECP (ask who it is, specifically), say this:

'The alleged debt is DENIED. Pass the file back to the originator and do not contact me again at all; if you do I will report you for harassment as I have clearly stated the alleged debt is denied.'

Either way, just ignore their letters and at no point get into a discussion about who was driving or ANYTHING about that day or their fake PCN, not even to confirm whether you have ever seen it. Do not reply to their points, just talk over them to make your point.

I am guessing they got your number from public records? You could block them as a caller but I think that costs you money. Better IMHO to deal with it head on.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Thank you both for such swift replies. Yes it was ECP who spoke to me, they've obviously got my number from the phone directory. I have caller i.d, and normally I don't answer to strange numbers, but my young daughter got to it before me, and they asked her could they speak to .... and innocently she said yes and handed it to me. My mobile number is on my answer machine, so I guess they have that too now. Thanks so much for your advice guys, I have told the kids not to answer the phone now, and will continue to ignore strange numbers. wish me luck, I will post any further develpments.
