Don't believe everything that you read in the papers or see on the news.

It wouldn't have been duct tape that was used but a product called "Speed tape". This is a very expensive aluminium tape that is often used for minor temporary repairs on aircraft. (and is very handy for carrying out repairs on cars, bikes and around the house!)

The window in question would have been extremely well secured in place (I've never worked on a 737, but this would either have been done with screws or possibly bonded into place), then there would have been a big layer of sealant applied to make the profile more aerodynamic.

If this sealant isn't totally dry then there is nothing wrong with taping over it using speed tape until it has totally cured.

This duct tape/speed tape mistake does happen occasionally.

    Speed tape in use.

  • A classic case of a journalist either not knowing or completely disregarding the facts of the story and a classic case of a reader believing what they read in the gutter press.

What Ryanair did was a standard airline procedure. Move along here, nothing to see here - Unless you're a Sun / Mail reader in which case, IT'S AN OUTRAGE!!!!!

Its been a rumour he has bought shares in 3M or another tape company ;)

He is also cutting down on fuel by restricting engine and then putting go faster stripes on the planes ;)
  • Don't worry moon, I could tell that you were taking the pi55.
I doubt that even MOL would resort to sabotage to get free publicity.

I was simply stating what the "story" really was for people who might be flying on Ryanair in the near future and who felt a bit nervous after reading the sun headlines.
  • I bet there was some pr*t from Everest knocking on the door trying to sell them a new window as they came in to land.
