Finding a new job during redundancy period

Hi all,

I've been told that my role within the firm is potentially at risk of being made redundant. Further meeting to discuss conclusions in a couple of weeks.

I'm looking for alternative employment and wondered what the situation would be if I receive a job offer and have been given notice of redundancy. Do I have to serve the notice period in my contract or is the situation different in a redundancy scenario? Would I still be entitled to (statutory) redundancy pay? No doubt I may be looking to pick your collective brains on other issues in due course but that's it for now ;)

If you are in your statutory notice period then you can serve counter-notice - but any time before that, if you obtain another job then you leave without redundancy pay (unless the employer decides they want to pay it to you anyway, which many don't!). Do not make the mistake of confusing statutory and contractual notice periods - on statutory notice periods apply to counter notice.
