Joint Water Supply Pipe Causing Flooding

Hello there
Been a while since I have posted but i could do with a few pointers if possible.
I got home from my wedding and honeymoon to find a load of water on the access road to mine and about 30 other properties. I happen to be in the house next to the access road thats flooding.
Got letters from Yorkshire Water saying we are eligable for a free fix but it wont be until next wednesday. Speaking to a neighbour this has been like this since about the 16th!!!
My issue is that the water is all going into MY GARDEN, no one else's its just how the terrain is. If it stays like this my fence will be ruined along with garden furniture (no where to put it really) and decking will all be ruined!
I have called them but they have said its still going to be next week. The water has already extended a further foot down the garden since yesterday.
Do i have a right to compensation if this stuff gets ruined or is it just bad luck?
The leak is in the pipe that goes down the middle of the access road.
Any thoughts as I cant get anything out of them when i ring, just keep telling me someone will call me back and twice no one has yet... its very frustrating.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts / advice. Cheers
Lee

likely to be entitled, but no point chasing what might happen - they have said that it will be next week for the repair, so you are now in a position to protect what you can, if you can - but there is no point chasing now for something that 'might' happen.
time to wait it out, they wont entertain it till it does happen - if push came to shove do you really have no where you can move the furniture to? (the deck I can accept is not a movable item...)0 -
Thanks visidigi
Its really the decking and my fence I am concerned about I have moved the table and chairs they are now in the shed (which is raised a little so should be safe. They were soaked but sorted it! Cant really move all mi plants though :-)... well guess i could but its a bit extreme
Having got a call back it turns out that as it is a joint supply (with about 32 houses) we are all jointly responsible for the leak although they are fixing it for free.
As such, they are not responsible for any damage that may occur. Also, they cant fix is sooner as they need to tell everyone that the water will be going off so I am stuff between a rock and a hard place...
Bit unlucky really but my home insurance does cover me for my garden stuff just don't know if it covers the fence but i will check. Fingers crossed!!!
Thanks again for your reply visidigi
Ill let you know how it goes!¬

Even though your house insurance may cover your fence and other stuff, there will still be an excess to pay. You might also end up with higher premiums in the future, especially if the claim is stated as flood damage.
It might be worth contacting your insurers for advice, and also calling Yorkshire water to see if they will pay for the rental for an external pump so you can minimise any damage.0 -
Seen watchdog, don't speak to your insurance even speaking to them regards this could push up your premiums0

I doubt Yorkshire water will pay for anything as it is not their responsibility. They are fixing it for free and that is probably the best you are going to get out of them.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.
