I bought 12 packs of smarties & 12 packs mint aero. Loads on shelf & to me buy as many as you need / want. DD will be able to take full packets of smarties in for class on her birthday instead on minis so she will be popular. They have a long date on them & will come in handy for Xmas presents. Mint aeros are her favourite so will save me loads at the corner shop. None will be wasted. Not sure why all the negative comments. Thanks to OP & hopefully not long till the next glitch.

I don't think the negative comments were directed at you or indeed most of the users of this forum - just the few who take things to extremes. There was a picture posted somewhere of someone's haul of about 15 outers of Smarties. They have now conceded that their greed may be offensive to some and deleted it though.

The glitches have been fixed now anyway - back up to full price and BOGOF
  • Tesco overcharge us on a regular basis. Well, they do me anyway - I get DTD on some error every 2nd or 3rd shop. I hate to think what they make from overcharging the frazzled mums / stressed professionals / frail older people who don't check their receipts and don't realise how often or how much Tesco's poorly managed systems are overcharging them.

Once in a while the system errors work the other way. And by shopping for that bargain - stocking up on the good deal - hopefully we'll encourage Tesco to take a more careful approach to its systems, so all those shoppers who have neither the time nor the inclination to check their till receipts are less likely to be overcharged week after week.

Companies pay consultants huge amounts to show them how to run their businesses better. We're doing the same job here, but being 'paid' in Smarties & TCO's.

And its going to be a lovely choc-full Xmas!

Surely this thread should be expired now as the glitch is no longer working.
It is such a shame when a money saving thread becomes a battleground amongst MSE users.

I know what you are saying, but it is not always for greed when people take advantage of the many Tesco blunders.

I have to take my hat off to the person who has bought a mountain of them and is sending them off the the troops - an admirable gesture.

I personally dont eat smarties but I bought a couple of dozen packs, but mine are to give away to childtren in The Gambia next month.

I see this has made the Mail again, so more publicity for Tesco. Bad or good, it is still free publicity.

A lovely thought but most of the appeals don't take chocolate
  • Forces parcels usually say no chocolate as it melts in desert conditions!

Sometimes when I read threads like this I feel almost embarrassed - not by the majority of people on here who are probably buying only one or two, but when you read of people taking 20+ boxes or filling their shopping trolley with boxes. I mean, it's Smarties we're talking about here, not some essential household goods. Smarties. Little coloured sweets. What gets into people that they get into what seems like a buying frenzy because Smarties are reduced in price?

It seems to become less about money saving and more about greed. No-one can seriously want or need that many boxes of Smarties, for goodness sake!

I'm not having a go at most of the people posting here, just the odd one or two. I think it's those few who ruin it for all the others too. I'm all in favour of picking up a bargain but surely it's only saving money if you actually need that amount of something. Simply buying something because it's cheap, and in this case stripping the shelves of Smarties, smacks of greed rather than saving money.

    Rant over. Sorry!

There are lots of different circumstances. I would get peed off if people then sold them on, but circumstances do vary, and I realise that some people have more access to supermarkets than others. I was miffed when the gardening stuff in Wilkinsons was reduced and I missed it by a day. I grow plants as a main way of me fundraising. But I can only hope that the ones who grabbed the bargains make good use of them.

My fundraising tombola on Saturday is going to have a good sprinkling of Terrys Choc Orange and Lego prizes. The money is going to pay for free cat neutering in my immediate area, and seeing as I'm one of the joint signitaries on the cheques we pay to the vets bills, I can DEFINITELY say that I am prepared 'go' after a glitch that comes up on this board. I'm now medically retired and cant afford to buy tombola prizes like I used to, so I need these glitches to keep our neutering scheme going through winter. I just have to take into account distance- the Choc Orange offer was on just as I was going to the vets in that town.

I have a very limited diet, so I'll probably never be able to grab a 'glitch' for myself- lentils and quinoa dont seem to be things that ever come on offer:).
DONT BREED OR BUY WHILE HOMELESS ANIMALS DIE. GET YOUR ANIMALS NEUTERED TO SAVE LIVES.
  • I didnt realise the offer had expired however went in tonight and picked up 2 aero peppermint and 2 aero chocolate.

scanned and paid for 2 aero chocolate first which came off buy one get one free at 90p - great!

scanned 2 aero peppermint and they scanned at full price of £1.97 even when going to pay they didn't reduce. Sales assistant manually reduced them for me though.

Thought i would give you the heads up incase anyone doesn't notice and nearly pays full price.

Realised when i was leaving the shop i could have got dtd!! Oh well! I'm more than happy with my bargain :D

you cannot send chocolate to the troops, it melts. They ask for hardboiled sweets instead.
