Paid online retailer by bank transfer

Hello Everyone

I paid an online retailer by bank transfer then cancelled the order because they subsequently locked me out of my account, now they are holding onto my money (£200) since 6th October there seems to be a template letter for visa cards but not for this can anyone advise the way forward? I have tried ringing them but they keep fobing me off saying payment is being processed through there systems but they don`t then back this up in writing! Please help!

short of taking them to court there is no middle process which you can refer to when trying to reclaim a bank transfer - they are literally the worst way to pay for goods or services if you want any form of come back.

Could be an expensive lesson learned here - I would be quite patient with the people you've sent the money to, falling out with them could make it much harder for you to get the money back.

Letter Before Action would be your next step if you feel they will never refund you what you are asking for.
  • Thanks for your reply...Oh yes lesson learned, i`m not usually that gullable, I haven`t pushed too hard, I`m going to give them a while longer then threaten them with court action it is fraudulent to obtain and with hold someone elses money without providing anything in the way of service or goods. I`m sure I`m not the only one in this situation.

No I don't think you are the only person in this situation, however you would be in the minority of using a bank transfer without realising that you had no easy way of recovering your money if it went wrong.

If you do have to use the legal route via small claims remember to start keeping screen grabs and copies of every single bit of correspondence. You will also need there proper geographic address- so if that isn't obvious you'll need to get that sorted as well. Also remember small claims will cost you, and even a ruling in your favour isn't an automatic return of the money as that is a seperate action via bailiffs .

I understood that there is a maximum time for refunds to be made in such circumstances and that it is thirty days from the date of the original transaction.

If this is so, then the retailer still has a week or so to comply.

No doubt, people with a greater depth of knowledge on the subject might confirm or deny this.....
  • Yes your right 30 days although they did say 10 days and yes I have a full address and having said all this they still might refund me!
