£105 in credit on E-on prepay gas meter!!

How can this happen?? And more importantly, can i have it refunded?? :D

I have no debts on the meter and everything seems fine but when i have my 6 monthly statement in this credit keeps going up!! I think it stood at around £80 this time last year, but got my statement yesterday and its gone up to £105.
I dont understand how i can be in credit on pay-as-you-go

Hi keep calm and carry on

A credit balance can appear on prepayment statements for several reasons.

Is the statement based on estimated or actual meter readings? If estimated, please let us have an actual reading so the account can be billed accurately.

Sometimes the statements are out of synch with the payments we've received.

For instance, the statement may be up to a meter reading taken on a certain day. If we've received payments after this time, they'll show as a credit but will be for gas used after the last reading.

Also, there may be credit on your meter. This will have already been paid for but not yet used, particularly as we've only recently left summer behind. The payments will be shown on your statement as a credit but will be cancelled out as you use more gas.

Best way to see exactly where you are is to take the latest meter reading and ask for your account to be billed to this. You can do this yourself if you've registered with our website by using the Real Time Billing facility.

Just enter the latest reading and click 'Submit Readings.' In fact, you don't have to raise a bill. If it's outside the billing window (14 days either side of the next bill date), you can opt to view the balance the reading will have produced.

Take into account any credit remaining on the meter to give you a much more accurate picture of where you're at.

Another thing I'd suggest is to make sure the meter is set up correctly by checking the settings. To do this, press and hold button 'A' until you hear a bleep. A display will appear showing the last amount of credit you put on the meter.

Another display will appear each time you press button 'A.' Keep scrolling through to show all the displays - 32 in all.

You need to do this with the card out up to setting number 24. At 24, you'll need to put the card in to see the remaining displays.

The main ones to look out for are as follows:

00 - the last amount of credit you put into the meter.

9 & 10 - prices the meter is set to collect at. Make sure they're the same as those outlined in your plan.

27 - total amount owed if any debt on the meter.

There's more info about these settings/prepayment meters on our website. Please click 'Existing Customers' and then 'Understanding Prepayment Meters' from the left hand menu.

Talk to our Prepayment teams if any of the settings are wrong. Contact details are on your statement.

Hope this helps keep calm and carry on. Give me a shout if I can help further as happy to do so.
