Network forgotten I have their phone?

Evening All,

I recently had issues with a phone so complained to my network and they were nice enough to send me a new one.

the only thing they said i needed to do was to pop the old one in a prepaid envelope and send it back

Anyway, I legitimately forgot to post the old one back I bagged it up and it got left in a cupboard...

This was about 3 months ago. So far, they havent chased me for it.

I was thinking, would I be risking it recycling the phone? Or is it technically mine?

I never signed anything apart from the delivery of the new phone from the courier.

Any thoughts? Cheers!

send it back to them as if someone spots this and you have recycled it then you could end up with an invoice to replace this as you can almost guarantee that they will have a recording of the phonecall where you were requested to return the phone
  • Is there anything stopping you sending it back to them now?

(aside from the wish to make a quick buck).

They may have blocked the IMEI number which renders the phone useless and the recycling companies won't give you any money for it.
  • So why don't you do the right thing and send it back? I am sure you would be here furious if someone from the same company kept something of yours for 3 months, then decided to sell something that belonged to you for profit. You agreed to send the phone back, it's not your phone to sell.

Isn't it broken anyway hence the cause for a new one?

Not only do you want to rip off the network by not sending it back, but also rip off some ebay punter by selling a dodgy phone.

I had a simliar thing happen a couple of years back. I ordered a new phone for my partner's birthday. It arrived and the phone itself was fine but the charger had a broken earth pin and wouldn't fit into the socket.

I called the company, explained the situation and they said I would need to send the whole lot back and they would replaced it. They said they would send the new phone out with pre-paid packaging for me to return the faulty phone. The new phone turned up but no packaging. I left it for 28 days just in case then called the company again. I explained the situation and that I needed to return the faulty phone and the guy said "oh, don't worry about it, you can keep it". A week or so later I received a letter confirming said action. I ended up giving the phone to my MiL and she just bought herself a new charger.

It may be worth giving them a call. In my case it was less hassle, and cost, for them to just write off the phone.
