Bought a used car from a local garage. Before picking it up, the garage phoned and said the car needed a part which was on order. The owner was hoping to have the repair done the day before we collected the car.
Unfortunatly, the day we picked the car up, the part still hadn't arrived. However, the garage wanted us to take the car & would contact us when the part was in to arrange a repair.
Anyway, we picked the car up last Tuesday. My OH phoned the garage last Friday re: repair. The owner said he was discussing all repairs that needed to be carried out on our car & other cars in his garage & would get back to us today.
Low & behold no phonecall. Don't know what to do. The repair needs to be done & he has already agreed to do it.
Any advice would be appreciated.

In hindsight I know I shouldn't have taken the car before repair was carried out.
Haven't got it in writing no, I am taking the word that they will do it. The repair, as I understand it, is to fix ESP/ASR fault.0 -
Telephoned the garage today...& more excuses. This time the guy who was organising the repair is off sick & they could'nt give me a time when he'll be back.
He shouldn't even need to be there, job should've been booked in. All the staff know about the problem.
Getting well annoyed with it.0 -

Take the car back for a refund
I don't really want to do that, especially since they took my car in as px. I would end up with no car at all & my OH relies on a car for work.
It's taken months of searching to find a used car in overall good condition. I just want the job done as agreed. This was agreed at the time of test driving the car. They still agreed to carry out the repair the day we collected the car from the garage. In fact, said it would be getting done even without us having to remind them.0 -

Or take the car back and request another car to borrow until the repairs are done. You bought the car with the understanding that the repairs will be done prior to getting the car.
You might have a fight on your hands though, but I would certainly take the assertive route on this one. Waiting for them to do what they said they would when the car is now with you and there is nothing in writing might mean a long wait (maybe not, but certainly highly possible).0 -
Get a price to do the job from somewhere else and go and demand they either book it in then and there, or give you the cash for your other place to do it.0

The car sales garage is a small independent outfit. They apparently use the garage over the road to repair cars/do MOTs ect.
The fault was actually pointed out during the test drive, so everyone at the garage knows about it.
I'm thinking about actually going through un-announced & disussing it face to face as opposed to over the telephone.
It wouldn't even be half as bad if the fault happened after I got the car home because if worse came to worse I could try and get the repair done on the warranty.
Overall the car appears to be in excellent condition, it's this fault that's the only bug bare.0
