No, No, No. Nothing is sold anywhere else that is remotely like a
    Geordie Stottie Cake.

Its a special big bread bun, different texture to bread buns altogether.

Best ones are from Grainger Market up the toon (ask your mam if she remembers it) I'm sure she will, I'm 62 and I used to go there with my mam as a child. :D

I don't have a recipe of my own, but this one looks about right http://www.fulbeckbread.co.uk/recipes/stottie.htm
I think the main difference of stottie to bread is that it uses plain flour and milk in the recipe.

The site has some other nice bread recipes too.

Hi Madlyn, another stottie cake fan here! I'm fortunate to have a Greggs nearby. They've made stottie famous I reckon! (There's a Greggs shop in Newcastle airport where you can buy stotties to take to ex-pat families when visiting!)
They once published a recipe book for charity. I remember sending it out to my sister in Greece. I'll see if she can help...
Maybe someone would have a copy of that? Good luck.

I remember when my sister moved to Scotland and got excited that there was a Greggs nearby but the disappointment that they didn't sell stotties!

Gah, I bought a Greggs cookbook years ago and it has the stottie recipe in it, but it's at my parents - if it was here I'd type it out for you!
