Surround sound/freeview connection problems

Sorry for the odd title but i couldnt think of a way to describe what I'm asking, we have recently moved to a new home where the will be on the wall via wires already in place, and i dont want to have to dig out the wall to put new ones in, I also dont want trailing wires from the TV. What I have is an HD TV on the wall, connected via an HDMi cable (buried in the wall) to a recordable HD freeview system. What I want is to connect a DVD surround sound system to this. Is there any way to do this without replastering the wall to accomodate the wires?? The freeview box has no scart connection in the back. I had thought about a surround sound with 2 HDMi connections in the back...is there such a thing?? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

yep it's just a receiver unit, you can get them with and without speakers, and there are loads on the market, receiver only (provide your own speakers), units with speakers,
you would just feed the HDMI from the freeview and bluray player into the receiver and then one HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV.
ps it is normally better to buy one which doesn't have DVD/bluray built in as they are very inflexable and likely dont have any inputs in, best stick to a receiver and speakers, or an set that includes speakers and the receiver but not a DVD (ie this one)
they have a few packages (other shops are available)0 -
thanks for that...I went to currys this afternoon and the bloke said I needed a system with 2 HDMi sockets in the back but he couldnt find one on the shelves....I have just realised he was looking at the back of the DVD not the receiver......0

Your mistake starts on the forth word (I) & goes onto the 7th :rotfl:0

OK, you need a proper receiver, not the combi boxes for people who can't be bothered plugging things in. They won't have sufficient connections.
It's very unlikely you'll be able to feed the sound FROM your TV (internal freeview tuner maybe) TO the receiver (there's a new standard in HDMI v1.4 or something that allows sound back down the way, but your TV AND reciever need to support it), but you'll be mostly using your PVR or DVD/Blu-Ray/PS3.
Get down to Richer Sounds or the like, and buy a receiver - I'd want at least 3 HDMI in to allow for a little expansion. They'll also sell you a speaker package and it'll all sound far better than a DVD combo. Oh, and buy yourself a PS3 for an awful lot of your media needs.
So as above, you've 1 HDMI from receiver to TV, then everything else plugs into the receiver via HDMI.0 -
^^^^^ What he said ^^^
a proper amp with loads of HDMI's in and at least one HDMI out. Amps now days act as the hub for your home cinema system in sound and vision.
Richer sounds is the place to go.loads of decent make amps at under £200. for example.
