Supermarket van pulled out in front of friend on bike

Someone I know recently got knocked off his bike by a supermarket delivery van that pulled out in front of him whilst he was on a bicycle lane.
The driver and the manager of the store seem to think its acceptable to think that he just cycled straight into the van and the driver isnt to blame.
The bike is now no broken beyond repair, cyclist got some injuries, but nothing that seems too serious at the moment, but not sure how they will feel tomorrow.
Anyone recommend the correct proceedure to follow this up seeing as though the store manager seems incapable of making a reasonable judgement?
Thanks

Contact the police. I hope the cyclist got names of any witnesses.
As for prosecution, driving without due care and attention (hitting a cyclist in a cycle lane) is an obvious start.

Did the driver exchange insurance details with the cyclist? Were there any independent witnesses? Does cyclist have any form of legal cover? On household insurance maybe?
The incident needs reporting to the police ASAP (why he didn't think to do this at the time I don't know) - driver is obliged to provide insurance details at the scene and report the incident to the police within 24 hours; if not he is committing offences. Forget the store manager - you're not complaining about a box of cereal - this is a fairly serious RTC.
Make sure he tells the police he's injured so they take it seriously.
If cyclist has legal cover - contact them for advice. If not, I would contact the van's insurance company and request to speak to the 3rd party claims department to lodge a claim against driver. If they start being awkward you may wish to consider a No Win No Fee Solicitor.
I was recently involved in a similar incident which is still ongoing:

Dont forget to make a legal claim now could be a few grand.0

To play devil's advocate, how did the van pull out, was it crossing the cycle lane, coming out of a house maybe?
Round here, some cycle lanes have to 'give way' at junctions, so it is not inconceivable that a cyclist may crash into a van.Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -

1, Friend does not have internet access
2, Friend mentioned situation to OP and asked for help and advice
3, Friend is being..well a friend.
4, Friend is dropping this because they don't see what they can do about it and OP's inate sense of justice led him/her to check if that was true.
mickym, hope you don't mind me asking, but you imply that you've already contacted the store manager. Can you fill us in on that bit?0 -

Must have missed the sticky that said you had to justify posting on behalf of a friend eh?0 -
LMAO, love the fact that my post questioning why NCISROCKS has posted nothing of any help over the last 24 hours has been deleted, yet their trolling posts on other threads remain.
