Fitness First - Contract Nightmare

I have recently tried to transfer my membership from FF Leicester to FF Southampton. 6 weeks later - im still chasing them and have not recieved one call or letter to remedy. Im still being charged for a Platinum membership when i have been trying to downgrade for all of this time and am not using Platinum services.

Im now at a point where im so dissapointed I want to cancel and go to another more reliable gym, who can respond to my needs. However having spoken to Customer Services today I have been told I am not allowed to cancel as I am still within my 12 month contract.

Surely this contract is only upheld if they provide a decent service? Is the fact that all I wanted to do was transfer and they still havent responded to me grounds to dispute and cancel. I cant believe they can get away with this??

Full story:

I started with FF Leicester who said they would get a manager to call me back, when this didnt happen after a week, I called again and was told I needed to speak to the club I wished to transfer to.

I called in to FF Southampton gave them my details and explained what I wanted to do. They said no problem and that they would call me to confirm when done. 2 weeks later no call. I call again, am told I need to speak to a manager who will call me back. Again 1 week later, no response so I call them again and told I am 2nd from top on the 'to do list' and that i will be called the next day. A week and a half later - guess what - no call.

Today I called customer services explaining all of the above and was told very unpleasantly that there was nothing they were willing to do as I was still in my contract!!!

I cant believe that there is no grounds to make a complaint here. What terrible service from such a large and successful gym. Advise PLEASE. Would be great to hear from anyone who can help....

Thanks

I know when my oh moved from one FF gym to another he had to wait for his 12 month contract was up, he was not happy with the state of the gym he did go to, I beleive that he did complain but like everything else it was ignored. From what I can gather they are franchises so cannot just move one membership to another. The gym that he did end up going to were really helpful and did explain that he had to wait till the 12 months were up before he could cancel at the other (which was only a couple of months away) and join at their one.
  • What does your contract say about transferring between gyms?
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • Thanks both...

I was told i could transfer if I moved. Im just at a point where I am fed up with no response - what else can you do when you have tried calling and going in, in person and no-one will respond.

    Seems unreasonable to me... :o
