I bought a Sony E Reader , it is under guarantee until next january,
it went wrong , would not load at all and then went completely .. I took it back to where i bought it and they returned it to Sony ....Sony said it was water damaged , so they would not be repairing it because the guarantee does not cover that , Now. i categorically have not had it near any water , i know i haven,t ....
They have just got back to me again and told me they have the pic to prove it and if i want it back they will charge me £35 to return it!!!!
Can anyone please tell me where i stand on this ??
Thank you
kathy

Hmm, a difficult one. Your contract is with the retailer who's responsibility it is to prove that the fault wasn't inherent. To their mind they've done this by consulting Sony. They no doubt believe they have 'proof' of water damage so aren't liable. The charge to return it sounds dubious though. Effectively they're holding your property to ransom. And have they offered to share this 'proof' with you? It sounds incredibly bizarre. "Yeah, hi, we've consulted Sony. We have proof that you damaged it (although you can't see it). If you want it back, please pay us £35 quid". So you're no better off than you were, and they're £35 in profit...

Ooo, I hate this whole 'water damage' thing. I once had a mobile phone written off the same way - it was brand new and had been stolen from its sealed box by my cleaner. The thief returned it to the Police (in perfect condition) the next day, who then used it as evidence in court.
When I got it back from the Police, it wasn't working so I sent it off for repair. The manufacturers told me it was 'water damaged' and out of warranty. They showed me the pictures as evidence and unfortunately, since it hadn't been in my possession the whole time, I couldn't categorically deny it.
In that case, the manufacturers told me it was probably kept in humid conditions rather than actually touching liquid water. Is that possible?
Agree the £35 ransom seems entirely unreasonable - in my case it was returned to me free of charge, just not repaired. I ended up selling it as a kids' toy.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Hi
thanks for your replies
I bought it at the Sony centre, I have had just 9mths out of it .....when i used to charge it i had to reset it after, It cost me £149 .99, and i am so upset because i have not got that sort of money to lose
There is no way it has been near water , i know this , i only used it at night before i went to sleep

not unless you can prove it wasn't water damaged no - you won't get either.
If I can give you any advice though, go get yourself an Amazon Kindle - £89 and service second to none, suire it wont cover you for water damage either, but at least its less than your initial purchase...0 -
I thought this all seemed vaguely familiar. This is not the first thread with 'water damaged' Sony eReader's.
