You can't be a day release student without a job.

    Please read what I wrote..?

Ive been working full time as an electricians mate for over a year, self-employed.
Im currently out of work, and do not wish to return to the construction industry for a few reasons, mainly because I wish to pursue a career that relates to my course, accounting.

And to be honest with you, my college really didnt ask much regarding my employment, if you need to be employed to go on a day-release course, than wow Im surprised at the lack of integrity theyve portrayed during enrollment.

No matter how bad things are at home, you are still going to be better off living with your parents than living in a shared house in a really rough area - if you can find one in your price range.

You need to cancel the gym membership as soon as possible, and get rid of your phone. Adhering to a 'strict diet' for the gym is rubbish - you are not a body builder are you?

If I were you I would either go back to college full time and get some qualifications - if you are 18 or 19 this should be free. Otherwise go out and look for a job - any job is better than nothing.

    im 19 going on 20.
I have a full set of GCSEs ranging from A* to B
My A levels didnt turn out how I envisioned them to turn out, but I still 'passed' (I laugh at this) and completed my courses. Im bilingual and have letters proving I scored top 10 in the country for the other language.
I AM in college, doing level 3 AAT, hoping to purse a career in Accounting.. however its all deceptive and very difficult for me to get into. I have paid for everything myself.
I have paid for my course fees, for my travel, for my washing up liquid and my food.

    Boybuilding you say?
It seemed plausible with my current progress for me to compete naturally in the regional qualifiers in Autumn 2012.

Have a look for the LHA rate for the shared rate for your area and this is the maximum that will be paid. If the rent is more than that you will need to top it up from your JSA. Your JSA will also need to cover your food and bills including your phone bill/gym etc. Have you would down your self employed business or is there just no work currently?

    Not a business entirely
my dad got me into the construction industry to earn money on the side (better pay than minimum @ a poor retail positon) not to mention more interesting. It really was only ever earn whilst I learn.. but now Im becoming more serious about my future prospects.

There is a lack of work for electricians mates, Ive been calling agencies for over 2 weeks to no avail.
Im not interested in returning, as I know ill be reluctant to leave the job if I ever fin an accounting role, due to lesser pay.

I think it depends on your area.

Here you would have no chance but then the next local area along you would get a one bed flat as they have more then they can shift, no houses but plenty of flats.
I would suggest going to the local office and filling in the forms. Only then will you know what is going on and if nothing else you will then be on the housing list.

Your parents are not demanding money, they are asking to you contribute to the family budget, you have to eat, use water, use electric
etc etc etc. Stop blaming them for everything. I'd be playing hell too if mine were spending money on the Gym, phone, computer and expecting me to pay for her food, utilities.

You maybe need to lower your sights when looking for a job if you cant find one in your own field.

I actually admire your parents for making you look afteryourself, they have prepared you for the outside world.

If you think hard youre probably to blame 50% for all the stress and arguments.

Once you accept half the blame you can start growing up.

Have you thought about returning to supermarket and/or electrician mate's work and completing your AAT qualifications by distance learning? I know that I find distance learning too hard, it's not for everyone.

Have you considered the Armed Forces? Again, not for everyone, but perhaps there are clerical/financial roles that aren't front line activities, where you will learn as you earn, and get your qualifications for free? They also tend to have good gym/fitness facilities.

    I agree with you completely.
But theres more to it than simple the financial aspect of it.

Simply put, If I do not have £50 a week,go live with your 'friends' until you do.

    Thats my problem..
Im rarely in at home because of the negative atmosphere in the building... I try to avoid or tackle the situation entirely, but it rarely gets better..

post above updated and edited btw.

Considered this before. However I still do not have a British passport (something went wrong during the whole process a few years ago). I need to bring this question up with my parents. Thanks for the reminder.

If you can't afford to give your parents £50 per week, how on Earth have you worked out that you'd be able to afford to live in a council flat? Have you any idea of the costs involved?

I know! I feel for the OP because he has reminded me of the frustration of living with my parents as a teenager and the years in dingy bedsits when I bailed out at his age.

It felt like I could never better myself and could spend the rest of my life in unsatisfying low paid jobs, never being able to save a scrap, never feeling like I could participate in the world like others around me were doing. Living from payday to payday with virtually no social outlet was horrible.

And that's when it was much easier to find work (albeit before the NMW and when HB was less generous) so I had to hold 2 jobs just to afford a room in a crappy shared house.

But then, more than 50% of my disposable income wasn't spent on gym membership, a mobile phone and a specialist diet...I know that they are locked into the gym and mobile phone contract and it's a shame being able to do little about these commitments.

And I never expected, don't even think I contemplated, having a place to myself. It would never have occurred to me to apply for social housing - I previously lived with my parents in social housing and I guess I just absorbed the message that it was near impossible to secure. And that was 25 years ago and when social housing didn't have quite such a bad reputation.

Fingers crossed for the OP that they find a solution to their yearning for independence from their family versus not being able to afford it. Even if they are awarded social housing (rarer than hen's teeth for someone in his situation), it's not necessarily going to end their basic problem of not being able to afford basic living expenses because their income is so low and their outgoings so high.

Armed forces is a brilliant idea, why not think about it, you have a work grounding to start with, they would probably welcome you.

Security, bed and board, independant (more or less) and a decent wage to save up for when civvy street beckons

My granddaughter has just started at Army Training College, and she absolutely loves it, she's 16 and Im so proud of her. She's training to
    be an artillery gunner,

They need electricians in the army, navy, air force. Think about it, its your ticket outa there.
