Flue in void

HI,
So just had my boiler serviced for the first time since moving in in Jan 2011. The engineer has told me its not to current standards as the flue is boxed in and there are no inspection hatches.

Simple enough, but who do i get to install inspection hatches? A builder, the gas engineer who serviced it? Sounds a daft question but have no idea who to approach!

Also it was serviced by the developper in March 2010 before i bought the property - why wouldn't it have been picked up then? Has a blind eye been turned?
Many thanks

When was the boiler installed? Just because it's not up to current standards, doesn't mean you actually need to bring it up to current standards. (I think! I am not a gas engineer!)

My boiler was installed in 1993 and was inspected last week for a the house sale. The gas engineer said two things were not up to current spec - boxed in flue with no inspection and PRV outlet is into the property rather than outside. He said it was a problem as it was an old boiler and there was no need to get it updated, but a new boiler would require these items rectifying if replaced.

EDIT!: just read the link! Oh well thats me told! I did say I wasn't a gas engineer, looks like you do have to have inspection covers fitted!

It was installed in late 2007, i think the new regulations came into force in June 2007. Should i have to pay for the alterations or should it be the developper? Its only boxed in so i supposed this could be ripped off and a cover put on to make it aceesible for future boiler services.

No - its down to your builder if the property is less than 2 years old. Between 2 and ten years you might be covered by warranty - see the link provided by the other poster.
