HP Pavilion

My friend is looking to buy HP Pavilion G6 1130sa. 15.6 screen from PC World @£349 as it on offer. Cant see it cheaper elsewhere nor a voucher code as the minimum spend is set @ £399 to get 5% off. The alternative is to go through Quidco.

On offer?? That's the normal price. Don't bother.

For that price they should be looking at 2nd generation i3...

What about the HP G6 1232SA, which is the same price. Is that any better?

He is taking it abroad as a prezzie for a nephew who is a student. Probably will be used quite a bit for everything. Will check out others that have been mentioned.

Look for a laptop that has or allows you to buy an International Warranty, such as Toshiba.

Hi Jayship. Ahh I see. If so then I say this laptop will be fine for them as it has multiple cores (2) which makes it easier to run different applications simultaneously. Windows 7 64bit and 4gb of RAM.
On top of this they both have a dedicated graphics card which is also good. They won't be able to play the very latest games, but should be alright to handle most others.

If the nephew wants to do a lot of technical stuff on the computer such as video editing or music creation and so forth, you may need a more powerful computer. However this one is a fine all-rounder in my view. You can get some laptops with 6 cores nowadays.

Hope this helps. I just wish we had laptops like this when I was a lad - used to costs a fortune back in the day :rotfl:

The first has no dedicated graphics memory.

The second looks better...but what about the warranty?

Yeah it has the AMD Radeon HD 4250M graphics card. Not sure about the warranty though with regards to taking it abroad. Is that what you mean? :)

That is not a graphics card.

Yes, I mean an International Warranty. If the laptop has a problem, will there be an available warranty in the country to which it is taken?

Actually you might be right there. Just realised it lacks dedicated memory of the earlier HD Radeon Mobility video cards. Seems like it is integrated. I apologise for that mate. Explains why it's so cheap I guess.
