David Ford should pay for this out of his own pocket...the man's deluded if he thinks a picnic table, cushions, plants, dvd player and the rest are "in no sense a luxury".....
complete muppet!! and in the meantime Mr Ford lets make our elderly choose between heat or eat. so annoyed!!

£2,250 is a lot for money but not so much as the £100 million paid to our barristers and solicitors last year through legal aid.
I'll chastise Ford for paying this but applaud him for taking on the lawyers and saving £18 million per year in the from the legal aid budget.
£18 million could heat a few old people homes.0 -
Sorry but it does seem a lot to me. There are a lot of honest people in this world who cannot afford a flat screen tv, a dvd player and a computer in their house. By all means make a person moderately comfortable but they should not be given items which are not available to everyone out in the non-criminal world.Always overestimating...0

Moderately comfy?
Why do these people in prisons have rights? And how on earth does that stuff come to over £2k! They need us mse'rs help :rotfl::rotfl:
They are there for punishment! Make them work for their keep, pay them x amount a day ie. £5 etc to spend on what they want - tv, cushions etc! I am sure if she had to work for it and buy it herself she would soon find that she could do without it!
Why do they get it so easy..... my husband is a policeman and know serial offenders that just reoffend because life is easier in prison than outside! Absolutely crazy!!!0 -

and of course that saving will be directed to the vulnerable that need it. Why do we treat prisoners better than our elderly in care homes and the like? It astounds me.
I expect we shall have another totally necessary review/consultation and that will swallow any savings and then some.0 -
of course it should be pointed out that Ms Price has been charged and is awaiting trial.
the basis of British law is that a person is innocent until they are proven guilty.
as such, Ms Price should be afforded every comfort as a innocent person deprived of her liberty.
of course reminding people of the basis of our law shouldnt interfere with a good old little England rant, makes you nostalgic for the days of Dickens0 -

I think you have to be very careful and play devils advocate. What ig we say that serial offenders should be chemically (or physically) castrated to try and minimise their impact on the future of our society. If they kept doing we should probably have to conclude that it would be better that we just execute them and save ourselves future trouble. However that is a very slippery slope. Get Hitler back with power and motivation on that one and it wont be long before we start giving out free health medication to long term benefits seekers... who then mysteriously become infertile. Or people with a certain history will just go missing... you get my drift I am sure.
I'd quite like to be a tyrant with my own world to rule but I have to concede that it would not suit many people! The rights situation is all wrong... but abolishment of rights is a really dangerous thing (not necessarily wrong in itself).Always overestimating...0 -

Sorry x12yhp think you may have gone off on bit of a tangent...my complaint (rant) is about the sum of money spent on the luxury of picnic tables/cushions/dvd players etc and not in anyway calling for the re-instatement of capital punishment......0
