Reduced price, after paying full!

This has happened to me before in the past I am sure but this one really wound me up.
I ordered an item off boots for £75 when they were doing a 1000 points extra deal.
Before it had even arrived they reduced the price to £50!
After emailing and asking if I can get a refund of £25 or did I have to send it back and re-order I was told it would have to be sent back.
By the time I received the item and was going to send it back they are now out of stock!
I would much rather have saved the cash then got the points.
