I cant decide -
i LOVE the smell of the real ones but the mess they make is ridiculous!
Getting more and more tempted to buy a fake one (a nice fake one) to store in the loft.
I feel like if i do but a fake one though then ill be losing Christmas spirit!

Both! I have a cheapy fake tree that goes in my dining room, but it isnt Christmas in my house without a real tree. All the Christmas decs and the fake tree go up early in December, we get the real tree about two weeks before Christmas Day. I love the smell of a real tree, I spray it every day with water and stand it in a little water to stop the needles from dropping.0

My fiancee and I moved out together 2 and a half years ago. Previously before he had moved out with me he lived with his parents and Christmas is a crazy BIG thing at theirs. Their family always have a real Christmas tree and so of course he insisted we get a real one when we moved out. The first year we went Christmas tree shopping it was so cold and all the trees looked a bit sad and branches were a bit sparse, so we decide to try a fake one. We got one from Sainsbury online for half price and it's gorgeous and so much easier! It has berry and pine cone decorations that come with it and it's nice to not have to worry about vacuuming all the time! We get a lot of compliments that it looks real and it's still very Christmasy with all the decorations. I'm very pleased that we don't have to worry about buying a real one every year (as they aren't exactly cheap!) and disposing of them.
Haven't thought about getting a real one since!0 -
we always have fake. i have a lush snow tipped 7ft one for lounge and a small 6 ft for dining room.
i really want a real one. but i'm put off by not being able to put it up as early and hubby says the mess will drive me crazy. but i'm sure there is 1 varitey which doesnt drop needles. so maybe will give that a go for the dining room.0 -
jcr16, the one we get doesnt drop its needles (much!), I think its called a Nordman Fir. They are expensive, I think last year it was about £40 for a 6 foot tree. But to me, Christmas isnt Christmas without a real tree, my mum always had a real tree (although she now has a fake one) and my Grandma always had a real tree that was so tall it would touch the ceiling. I supose real trees are linked to my childhood Christmas memories.0

I've always had a fake one as I begrudge the cost of buying a real one every year, oh and the mess :rotfl: my parents always have a real one now and i'll be honest its no more christmassy now than it was when I was a child with the fake. I suppose im just one of those people who thinks £40 - £60 for something thats stands in the livingroom for 3 weeks is very expensive.
The tree doesnt make christmas christmassy, the people you celebrate it with do

Real one always works for me.
Best thing to do is smother it in hairspray to stop the needles dropping...0 -

I think im the same - always remember my dad being so pinickity about decorating and he would never let anyone help him - but to his credit, he did it beautifully every year!so far....Radox Waterproof book...10 Business cards (ideal for new pad!)...Fabric samples...Shower timer...Flush saver...Seeds ahoy...0 -
